Reviewed by: CNET Staff

In spite of its extensive user-support documents, HelpScribble's confusing, hard-to-use interface and work flow could easily scare a beginner away. On the plus side, the program offers a wealth of capabilities for creating any type of help file, including flat RTF manuals, Web-based documents, and full-fledged manuals, both in the WinHelp and HTML Help standards. We also appreciate that HelpScribble gives you tools that greatly facilitate creating a table of contents and index for your manual. However, the evaluation version adds a watermark to files, won't export source documents, and only lets you save your creation in HTML. These limitations reduce its appeal to more experienced users who could at least tough their way through the program's nonintuive interface.

Publisher's description

From Just Great Software :

HelpScribble is a full-featured, easy-to-use help-authoring tool for creating help files from start to finish. Create WinHelp (HLP) files, HTML Help (CHM) files, a printed manual, and online documentation all from the same project. Write full-featured help files with the built-in editors for SHG files (hot-spot bitmaps), WinHelp macros, content trees, and browse sequences. If you have previously used another help-authoring tool, reuse your work by importing the HPJ and RTF files created with the other tool or by a decompiler. Use the help files you make with HelpScribble to provide context-sensitive help with your Windows applications, no matter which development tool you use.

Version 7.3.2 may have unspecified features, enhancements, and bug fixes.
