CNET Editors' review
Hard Drive Inspector Professional keeps all of your system's attributes and hard disk health information in one, nicely wrapped package. However, we found a minor discrepancy with the information it provided us.
The user interface is beautifully designed, with large command buttons at the top for saving and sending data reports, and configuration options. Tabs organized the diagnostic information into three categories: Health Summary, Technical Info, and S.M.A.R.T. Details. From the Health Summary window, we got a brief summary of the amount of available space left on our hard disks, our disk model, and the temperature; although the temperature given on the main interface did not match the temperature given on our taskbar. But beyond that, we were able to view, in detail, our hard disk information, including serial, model, and firmware numbers, as well as logical and physical geometry info. The S.M.A.R.T. Details listed our system's attributes, along with their current stages, values, and flags.
The Help file does offer more detailed explanations of the program's features, so you don't have to be an expert to know how to read the information it provides. Though we would have liked to have seen a trial period longer than 14 days, we still recommend this program as a worthy diagnostic tool.
Hard Drive Inspector is a technology-based program, which allows controlling the state of your hard disk drives. As the access to electronic information becomes more and more vital in business and at home, Hard Drive Inspector allows exceeding the traditional limits of HDDs reliability, thus extending the level of valuable user data protection. The program has a flexible option system, which allows you to customize the functionality of this utility according to your needs.
Version 1.3 build 846 improved Help file and some internal procedures and algorithms.

"The best of the breed"
Version: Hard Drive Inspector 4.24 build 202
Tried several HDD monitors during past two years and consider this one the best of them. Some of them show you a lot of technical data which is probably good if you are a techie yourself. This one compresses all those tables into just 3 easy-to-understand HDD health parameters: reliability, performance and error-resistance. I don't need to know some weird "spinup time" info, I just want to know if my disk is gonna crash tomorrow.
Its Czech interface has some spelling mistakes.
"A must have for everyone with valuable data"
Version: Hard Drive Inspector 4.20 build 185
Simple and easy to use. Saved my data twice since 2007 (in my experience, recently manufactured HDDs are even more unreliable than the older ones, don't know why, should be otherwise). If you have valuable data on your PC you definitely need this prog.
Don't recognize one of my external USB disks.
"Poor support, does not work"
Version: Hard Drive Inspector 3.98 build 438
It has a simple interface.
I have a hard drive that I know is developing bad blocks, but this software says the drive is in good condition. This software appears to do nothing and does not detect problems as advertised.
I have tried to contact their technical support ( email@example.com ) on 2/3/12 and sent 2 more requests but I have heard nothing. I also created a support case on their website on 26/3/12 but again I have had no response so far.
They are ignoring me on purpose because they don't care.
Don't bother with this software. If you want to check the status of your hard drive, use the tested tools provided by your manufacturer.
"BEWARE OF THIS SOFTWARE COMPANY"
Version: Hard Drive Inspector 3.87 build 393
I downloaded the program and it did do what it said it would do, which as it turned out, wasn't all that much.
I tried to get it off my hard drive and could not find the thing in control remove. I finally found it by doing a search and then tried to remove it, no deals. The companies web page is in Russia. It seems like they fixed it so I couldn't remove it,
"best product for this segment"
Version: Hard Drive Inspector 3.86 build 389
existing many features, including auto shutdown
shows multiple hdds, when other programs don't (in my case)
more expensive than competitors
i would recommend, even for the price mentioned.
"Piece of cr@p"
Version: Hard Drive Inspector 3.33 build 263
Nothing ... won't start ...
Probably some adware shell ...soo much unusable software, download.com is almost useless anymore
"Runs well on Windows 7."
Version: Hard Drive Inspector 3.32 build 259
The most recent version runs well on Windows 7 Ultimate, and reports correctly on one of my external drives (Western Digital)- the previous version did not report correctly on this drive.
Reads both internal SATA drives and one external USB drive but not the other which is a similar age and the same brand.
Website not very informative but tech support responds reasonably quickly to requests for assistance.
I am not sure why it does not report on both external WD drives. Living in a very hot climate, I appreciate the ability to monitor HD temp, and to know when to turn off my external continuous backup drive which reaches near critical temperature on hot days.
A useful asset for hot climate computing, and for monitoring the health of older hard drives.
"Failed To Recognize Drive"
Version: Hard Drive Inspector 3.30 build 250
Review of product seems to indicate a solid program.
Program would not recognize / detect the hard drive in my computer! Not sure what the problem is, but could not get the program to work at all. Running Vista Home Premium 32-bit, SP2.
Just wish I could have gotten this program to work. I do not doubt the valuable information that this program provides, but if it can't even detect the drive in my computer from the start, then nothing can be gained. Does state Vista compatible, but perhaps just not with SP2. Most likely a software conflict.
"Software did not detect my hard drive"
Version: Hard Drive Inspector 2.102 build 486
Interface is clean
Quick response from tech support
Software did not detect any drives to begin with, and then only one drive with incorrect details. Technical support was unable to provide a resolution
"Works, but provides little tech info on drives."
Version: Hard Drive Inspector 2.9 build 467
Runs without crashing or crashing XP.
Does not provide much in the way of tech info on the drives, their performance, etc. HD Tune Pro is a MUCH better product for this application.
