There are innumerable audio players out there, with features and interfaces made to meet the taste of just about every user. Hanso Player is yet another entry into this crowded field, and we can't say we were impressed. Not only does the program not bring anything particularly new or interesting to the table, functional problems prevent it from effectively doing the one thing it's really meant to do: play music.
Hanso Player's interface is similar to that of many other audio players, replicating the look of a car stereo face. We have personally never been fans of this style; perhaps we're getting old, but we prefer our buttons to be larger and more clearly marked. We opened the playlist portion of Hanso Player's interface and found that it diverged sharply from the sleek style of rest of the program, reminding us visually of something from Windows 95. All things considered, though, these are minor complaints; what we were really interested in was how Hanso Player worked. And the answer to that question was "not very well." We created a playlist from a directory of audio files easily enough, but we found that tracks played with Hanso Player repeatedly skipped and stuttered. This surprised us, and we immediately tried the tracks in a different audio player, where they played with no problems. It wasn't a system resource issue; Hanso Player was the only program we had running. Although we wanted to give Hanso Player high marks for being able to play a wide variety of different file types, in our experience it didn't do a very good job of playing any of them.
Hanso Player installs a desktop icon without asking but uninstalls cleanly.
Hanso Player is a resourceful audio player created for the exigent music listeners accustomed to high-quality software and sound. At the core of the program lies an embedded SQL database engine (sqlite); the formats you are enabled to use cover most of your needs: MP3, MP4, MPC, FLAC, OGG, WAV, WMA. Hanso Player capabilities go beyond just playing tracks - the program offers a different and richer way of managing and listening to your favorite songs. It packs incredible user-friendliness and smart features. Dynamic playlists allow fully automatic, randomized playback of tracks which is "schooled" by your own preferences - the more you listen to music, the better it will learn your preferences. Your music related habits will be addressed by browsable, user re-orderable playlists as well.
With Hanso Player you can easily access a rich info database which allows you to find details about the song you are listening to (internet access required). Additionally, the software comes with a built-in online-radio function to help you discover new artists. The mixture and freedom available in creating and managing your playlists is one of the aces this program holds as it makes possible for you to actually develop a musical profile out of your collection of tracks. For instance the Collected feature includes its own set of standard and dynamic playlists, virtually a recipient for songs you wish to play but don't necessarily want to have in your main library yet (or at all). To make your handling of the program even easier there's a special feature that offers handy tips through pop-up balloons. Moreover, special features enable advanced playlist manager with sequential or random play, FreeDB server support, a tag editing tool and a drag-and-drop window.
