"it works well and free also, two thumbs up !!!"
Version: HandBrake 0.9.5
Pros
it is usefull to rip a dvd with a subtitle and you can open it in VLC with choices for the sub track. So it can make a compact video.
Cons
nothing serious it just I always have a problem in ripping from DVD directly, you to copy all the DVD files to your computer first then you can get a great result. Also it is hard to make a default subtitle from srt file.
Summary
This is just what I need.... Excelence!!!!

"Installed/Worked better than expected"
Version: HandBrake 0.9.5
Pros
Relatively easy to use and intuitive. No need to read a manual or consult a help file. Absolutely free to use and looks like it hasn't installed any garbage (although one can never tell for sure). Installation on Vista was a piece of cake.
Cons
None - so far so good.

"Fast, free, brilliant, amazing. What more can I say?"
Version: HandBrake 0.9.5
Pros
I have never seen such a brilliant video compressor. My 3.90GB gameplays are now only 200MB. Thank you soooo much to the makers of this program and now I can store 20x more gameplay videos on my external HDD. WELL DONE :)
Cons
NONE! HOW COULD THERE BE?!!

"Not on windows 7"
Version: HandBrake 0.9.5
Pros
works great on mac.
Cons
not on windows 7
Summary
I simply cannot get it to work on my windows 7 pc. I tried what the last reviewer wrote with VLC and administrator. I tried title specific conversion. It always stops the conversion prematurely and then gives a scrambled video. Maybe the next update will help. Anyone know of a similar program that works for windows 7? I want to copy my DVDs to a mp4 version for itunes/ipad viewing.

"Got it to work in Windows 7"
Version: HandBrake 0.9.5
Pros
Lots of options for controlling final output/format
Cons
Learning curve for all of the options
Summary
Before installing Handbrake, I installed VLC media player first. I installed both by right-clicking the executable and choosing "Run as administrator" (second item in the list). Every time I launch Handbrake, I right-click the icon in the Start Menu and choose "Run as administrator." Haven't had any issues.

-
