HTML-Optimizer is a useful tool for the web amateur who wants to make sure that his or her site is always in top condition (for professionals we have Web Site Maestro that can handle a large number of web sites). HTML-Optimizer checks your web pages for dangling tags, missing attributes and broken links, and - most importantly - it makes your pages load faster by optimizing both HTML and script code. The program features Smart Handling which means that only the pages that you have changed are processed, i.e checked and/or optimized. HTML-Optimizer helps you keep organized by creating a duplicate site folder for the optimized files. An added benefit is that it leaves your original files untouched. Drag and drop is supported.
What's new in this version:
- Added the option to remove spurious white space caused by some HTML Editors.

After one day of playing with HTML-Optimizer I have to say that I'm impressed?both with the app itself and with the developer.
To wit, I noticed that the Tonbrand Software web pages don't validate. So, I fired off a polite inquiry to the developer to ask why, and received a speedy reply with a satisfactory answer. Essentially, it was that the validation errors were minor?things like optional end tags and unneeded quotation marks?and in any case they could be cleaned up by a simple change of settings in HTML-Optimizer's preferences. It wasn't that important to him, because his pages displayed properly on all major browsers anyway. Hmmm...OK, fair enough.
Then came a second message informing me that the next update of HTML-Optimizer will include those preferences settings as the default, achieving validation for XHTML code (which is what I use) on the first bounce. That kind of responsiveness is a very good sign, considering the fact that I had only run the software for a one-day trial.
I ran HTML-Optimizer on a couple of pages I built in iWeb, and it knocked 53% off the page size for one of them, and 46% for the other one. They load much faster since then.
One of the features of HTML-Optimizer that was immediately attractive is the fact that it creates a duplicate copy of the site and then optimizes that, leaving the original code intact. You can publish the optimized code only when you're sure you want to commit the changes. Nice!
There's no question that HTML-Optimizer is a well-designed, eminently useful, and diligently supported application?well worth the cost of the license. -

my web pages are fairly simple, and pagespinner creates pretty clean code. but there are always things i miss, especially after updates and redesigns. this app finds and wrings out all the fat. very good value for the price. -

i layout/basic design my pages in GoLive CS and do the rest (to completion) in BBEdit. But even then, HTML Optimizer can find many things and save me lots of time and editing! A life saver imho - this app performs as i'd ever wished for and now i've just registered too! Excellent app + all for around 8 pound :-] -

Seems to me that a tool like this that does what it is built to do and does it well should be applauded. Seems to me "-most apps can be configured to export pretty good HTML" is a testament to a good place for for this application. BTW, MS apps do NOT export pretty good HTML (maybe at very best MS apps might achieve pretty good). I very much prefer to use good WYSIWYG tools and spend my energy on creativity and design.
Seems to me about 8 or 9years ago it was necessary to painstakingly write HTML line-by-line. Tools like 'Arachnid', then 'PageSpinner', and more recently 'Blue Fish' made life a whole lot easier. Along come wonderful apps like 'PageMill', 'GoLive' and 'Dreamweaver', and others really made web page creation more fun than work (anyone who thinks 'Front Page' as fun must be sick).
I agree that it is essential to write good code, but I see no reason to labor over it when there are great tools like this.
