CNET Editors' review
Greatly expand shutdown options with this handy utility, but you'll find that the demo includes more than the free version. HSLAB Free Force Down's simple interface combines radio button options with a pair of desktop shortcuts. This isn't a program that demands user experience, or an extensive instruction manual. The only thing testers should be aware of is that the demo installs the commercial version of this application by default, and not the freeware version they're probably expecting.
HSLAB Free Force Down performs common shutdown procedures quickly and with a minimum of fuss. At install, a pair of shortcuts added to the desktop will either shut down Windows or restart it. Testing both offered the usual complaints of software in this genre. There are times where software conflicts with the shutdown procedure and user intervention is required. That occasional common problem aside, this application quickly shuts down Windows.
Of course, experienced users could create a pair of shortcuts that shut down or restart Windows without this program. However, those without the knowledge should give this application a try, as long as they take care to install the freeware version promised.
