Editors' reviewEven in this day of BitTorrent and streaming Web video, FTP retains an important role in transferring files on the Net. Potential downloaders should take care, however--this software is aimed at computer users who want to set up an FTP server inside their networks, not at ordinary FTP users who simply want to transfer files. It does that task well, with a welcoming interface and a smooth installation process. It offers network administrators tight control over an FTP server's operations, with the power to limit connections by IP address, and to limit download speeds and transfer rates. Each individual IP address can be customized, with privileges such as a high or low priority in downloads and uploads. Despite this, we would have liked to see a bit more password-based security to keep out unauthorized users. However, on the whole this is an appealing choice for administrators who want to set up a basic FTP site.
GuildFTPd has AutoBAN to control hammering, On/Off case sensitive passwords, Deleted files can be sent to Recycle Bin, Allow multiple or single instance of program running, Advanced User creation to assist in configuring user accounts,Passive IP and ports for use behind SOHO DSL/Cable routers, Event Manager with variables to provide customized "user" functions Send & Receive Buffer Size Control, and virtual file system.
