This Firefox add-on integrates Google's search functionality with Wikipedia's. It's a neat concept, but we're not sure if it's really necessary.
Googlepedia's user interface is a combination of Google's and Wikipedia's interfaces. When we performed a Google search, a corresponding Wikipedia article took over half the screen. It would have been helpful if you could scroll each half of the page. Instead, they both scroll as one page, which is a bit awkward. Your only choice is to expand or hide the Wikipedia page. We did like the dual effort when a link in Wikipedia is clicked. Googlepedia will not only take you to that page, but it will do a Google search on the item as well. Our testers all found that the add-on worked as promised, but many weren't impressed by what it did.
To get the most out of the program, you really have to know what you're looking for, or at least have a good idea. But then again, if you know what you're looking for, why not search directly in Wikipedia? Or Google for that matter? At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference. Some users will appreciate the combined search functionality, while others won't see the point. It's free, so you can see which side you fall on.
