Chrome is Google's attempt to make the browser disappear and to focus on the applications and pages users are viewing, rather than on the border with its tools. Some of Chrome's basic underpinnings are quite novel, but people will recognize other features as they exist in other, open-source browsers on the market today.

Currently only for Windows, Chrome is blazingly fast and is easily the quickest browser available. Based on Webkit, the same open-source engine that powers Apple Safari and Google's Android mobile platform, Chrome's interface is a drastic departure from other browsers. Instead of the traditional toolbar, Chrome puts its tabs on top. Moreover, the tabs are detachable: "tabs" and "windows" are interchangeable here. Detached tabs can be dragged and dropped into the browser, and tabs can be rearranged at any time. By isolating each tab's processes, when one site crashes, the browser does not.

Within each tab are individual controls, such as forward and back buttons. The search box and the address bar have been fused into a hybrid "Omnibox." The Omnibox includes not only suggestions for URLs culled from your browser's history, it also includes search suggestions from your search engine, and remembers site-specific search engine results. There's also Application Shortcuts, a feature that allows you to create desktop icons for Web-only applications, such as Gmail or Calendar. The stealth mode, Incognito, lets you surf without the history recording cookies.

Chrome lacks plug-ins, and there's the potential for high memory usage given that each tab is its own process. If you're addicted to Web apps and a need for speed, though, Chrome just might be the shine your browsing experience has been looking for.

"Overrated & hyped."

February 10, 2009  |  By gvs1566

 |  Version: Google Chrome 0.2.149.30

Pros

Slim to look at. Tabs position looks nice.

Cons

It does not have features of Firefox. The biggest problem is, it is not compatible with Roboform. Not fast as claimed.

Summary

It's ok, as browsers go. Need lot of improvement.

"Just like signing over 60/40 ownership to Google - SLOW"

January 07, 2009  |  By venn5908

 |  Version: Google Chrome 0.2.149.30

Pros

One of the features that caught my eye that may be useful is the very accurate website browsing history.
The browser is alot easier and quicker to remove from your system than it is to install..

Cons

Everything was good until I decided to allow Google to claim default status as my browser. At that point my system came to a virtual crawl. It was like IE7 de-throned, decided that if I can't be your browser, then nobody will be your browser.

Summary

Having Google Chrome as a browser was like hiring a keylogger to trace every move you make. I felt like I had given up the majority stockholder ownership of my computer. Probably the same as any other browser, but they seem way, way more anxious to make you aware that they can show you precisely where you have been and what, when, who, why, and whynot they bird-dog you and record everything you do. This feeling of loss of control of my security along with the way my system reacted when I swapped out default browsers left me no choice but to un-do what I did. I deleted Chrome and in three minutes my system was back to normal. The difference was like night and day. I am going to wait a while before I attemp to upgrade my browser. I generally don't experiment with such new beta releases but curiosity got the best of the cat. My lesson learned is, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

"Extremely Fast..."

December 29, 2008  |  By kstenbch

 |  Version: Google Chrome 0.2.149.30

Pros

This stripped down browser is extremely fast even at dial-up speeds.

Cons

If the page does not appear in your web history, the browser has trouble navigating and often resulting in a browser error.

Summary

Google Chrome is an extremely fast stripped-down browser. It could do with some add-ons such as Google Toolbar, especially since both the toolbar and the browser are from Google. These stripped down browsers often get their speed by allowing users to disable add-ons, images, Java, and the like. The problem is that doing so often blocks users from loading meaningful content.

"Fast but inflexible."

December 21, 2008  |  By magercarlos

 |  Version: Google Chrome 0.2.149.30

Pros

Fast, easy to use

Cons

Does not ask whether one wants to open a file (picture, for example) or download it. I want to be able to open pictures upon download and then save some of them to the same file, withouth being repeatedly asked where. Also bookmarking is hard.

Summary

Needs to be more flexible and easy to use when downloading and bookmarking.

"The best Broswer"

December 21, 2008  |  By jammy95

 |  Version: Google Chrome 0.2.149.30

Pros

Its amazing faster than all other browsers
Its got a cool clean look
Its safe
You know its good because its by a globally recognized company Google.

Cons

The only annoying thing is the lack of add ons: Like toolbars, ad blockers, etc ( but these are set to come very soon

Summary

This is the browser i would recommend to anyone and everyone. It is clean and safe but most importanlty its fast. Yes is has a few problems with compatibilty to sites and no add ons but this all comes with time and i expect this browser can only get better. I got this browser the day it came out and haven't looked back since. Friends and family are amazed at its speed and so have changed and i hope this comment will make you change to. Hope you will enjoy the new fast browser ( i love it even though i am no computer geek, it just makes my day quicker and easier).
Enjoy
