"Easy to use, quality recording software"
Version: GoldWave 5.06
Pros
Volume optimization allows for user defined settings.
Pop & Click filter and Noise Reduction allow for choices of several levels of agressiveness.
Recordings from pristine records sound almost like studio mastered CDsCons
Learning curve to gain mastery of commands a little longer than expected.
Still haven't figured out how to get the playback cursor back to zero time with a simple command.Summary
I'm using the demo version now, but will probably buy the unlimited version when I use up my commands quota (though I may do a little comparison shopping first with some other demos). Recordings from well used, but not damaged, records clean up nicely without noticeable loss in musical qualities. I haven't tried a really rough record yet. I like the price, the quality of the recording produced, and find it generally user-friendly after the initial learning curve. It has enough bells and whistles to satisfy me, as my major objective in having it is to archive my vinyl records to CD. I don't need a live recording studio. It may be OK at that, but I wouldn't know.

"A Goldmine for Audio Lovers!"
Version: GoldWave 5.06
Pros
> I can't recommend this product highly enough. I first worked with this product in its version 3. And I liked it a lot. Recently, I downloaded it (obvious) and am pleased to see that it has improved greatly than its past versions.
> It is the best, no doubt. You can tinker, play, edit, modify, record, add effects, trim, and tons more with audio files.
> It supports all the well and no so well known formats. Small size, but tremendous power!
> It doesn't bog down the system resources. The interface is good, and you can just do whatever your creative urges tell you to do with a click of a button. All the important tools are placed handily on the main window, so not much menu clicking.
> An extremely generous trial period of time is there. You can keep the trial version permanently on your computer, as so long you don't want to do any long recording of sounds.
> The product performs with ease on EQ adjustments and the noise reduction is fine. It is a flawless one and will really surpass a user's expectations.
> You can also change the volume of a audio file and add crossfading effects and other noise effects to this product. It is an aptly well priced product and lives up to its name.
Cons
> Only a lame_dll codec is required. It is available free, just Google it. You can however convert the file to a different format (say wma) and then convert them to the mp3 format with another product. Enjoy!

"Best bit of shareware I ever bought"
Version: GoldWave 5.06
Pros
Good interface, though takes getting used to. Helps if you know what you're doing, but not a major issue if you don't. This audio editor has been all I've needed for the past 10 years. This is a superb example of the reason for registering shareware - it just gets better!
I use this to tweak sound files, rip from audio CD (copyright permitting, of course), and anything else I have audio needs for. I find myself thinking time after time, "I could do that in Goldwave..." when looking at expensive audio editors.
Cons
None that I've found yet

"Excellent, easy to use"
Version: GoldWave 5.06
Pros
Converts anything to anything with options. Just have to remeber to select 'all files' when importing to get all options

"HUGE waste of time...please read below"
Version: GoldWave 5.06
Pros
Has all the bells and whistles you could ever imagine and then some.
Cons
The bells and whistles are impossible to operate! I'm an avid PC user. Have used many, many programs of this nature. This is the biggest piece of garbage to date. I record cassettes of my local band and put the sound from analog to digital via my PC. Very common practice I suppose.=================================Now for the real cons...you will be ready to pull your hair out after a few hours of tinkering with this program. It's a huge resource hog so forget about doing anything else online with a dial-up. Also, you have 2000 commands and the program quits. I tried to split a 36 minute recording into 9 tracks using fade-in/fade-out, equalizer, auto cue (track finder), split tracks, and a few other functions. After over 1,000 commands the program was half over. This piece of crap is the hardest software to understand that I've ever seen. And I never got my recording split into anything but out-of-order out-of-sync tracks. If you have a LP or cassette and want to put it onto a CD then this program would be fine. But it does cost $40 to activate...if you have a live recording with multiple tracks then go elsewhere. GoldWave is too complicated and not worth the effort. At least I did get to hear what my Rob Zombie CD was saying in reverse using GoldWaves reverse function, which by the way is the only useful function I found.

"Great for beginners and professionals!"
Version: GoldWave 5.06
Pros
It's an incredibly stable and easy to use piece of software. As a professional working with audio, I find it a pleasure to work with. It's great as an MP3 player (if you're a saddo like me who like's tinkering with music as you listen to it!). You can open a wide variety of formats including my pet hate .wma! It's a serious must have if you're going to be editing spoken voice for radio interviews etc, but it's also a great editor of other audio too.
Cons
Dosen't support that many special audio FX, but it does have the basics such as basic EQ adjustment, Band Pass etc.
