It either failed to recognize my iPod, telling me to disconnect & reconnect my iPod or recognized the it & threw up this error: "Could not access the iPod windows device. Make sure you have administrator rights on your computer."

i gave free gizmo a chance and tried it but it would close on me every time.
i did not want to waste more of my time with this so i went for copytrans. i had to pay but i then quickly restored my itunes library. -

Did not copy photos: it appeared as if it were doing so (progress bar was moving) but once the 'Pictures' folder was opened (I specified that it place my photos there), the pictures weren't there, they weren't even read as hidden files.
Summary
The program is quite simple and easy to use though I was disappointed that it didn't copy my photos.

Great program. It Just Works ?, unlike many iPod backup programs (especially free ones). Clear, easy-to-use GUI.
Backing up can be done via either importing to iTunes or copying to a hard drive.
One niggle: it talks about "restoring" iPod content, when what it really means is backing it up. (Restoring is the process of using a backup). Once you get past this, it's perfect at what it does. -

recovered all of my music from my ipod in less than ten minutes. and put the music back into my itunes library automatically.

none. worked perfectly, and uses itunes to put the music directly into itunes library.
Summary
i lost all of my music files when my backup drive died during an itunes reinstall. this program saved all of the music that was on my old ipod. it probably saved me a hundred hours of importing music and downloading and entering data into itunes. thanks to the gizmoquip team.
