Does the world really need another VoIP client? Here's one Gizmo that thinks so.
Gizmo's interface is compact and rectangular, with tabs on the top just below the Menu bar and a series of ancillary commands like Chat and Add Contact available at the bottom. There are very few differences between Gizmo's design and its biggest competitor's, and a little originality could've gone a long way here.
Also similar to Skype, Gizmo provides free VoIP for computer-to-computer voice chatting as well as text chatting. It also allows for computer-to-telephone voice chatting for both mobile phones and landlines. It has one feature that Skype lacks: it lets you conference call with multiple PCs by entering in a random, shared number. Overall, the sound clarity and quality was excellent, with no lagging nor echoing. Gizmo also says it provides asymmetrical chat-client VoIP, so you can use Gizmo and your headset to talk to somebody on Windows Live or Google Talk. We couldn't get that feature to work, but it's a smart idea and we hope it gets debugged soon.
Overall, Gizmo's got some good stuff and some room for improvement. If you despise Skype or are just interested in alternatives, you might want to give this one a try, but otherwise we'd recommend holding off.

Version: Gizmo Project 1.0
Pros: The latest version available directly from the vedors site -- gizmoproject -- fixes all major bugs and has cool new features -- chat/IM, google federation etc. pretty neat stuff.
Cons: Wish I could conference call easily and log in to other IM networks such as AIM etc.

"Works well enough, competes with Skype"
Pros: Cheap calls (~$0.0/min US-US), inexpensive incoming local numbers possible ($5 per month including voicemail versus local telco of $25+), outgoing minutes in block purchases. Not for whole house VOIP but PC or SIPphone based (I make most of my long distance calls with cellphone but it is nice to have an incoming number to hand out that isn't using my cell minutes). Call clarity good at least in the US. Record calls, send missed voicemails to email as wav file (which in turn can send a text message to cellphone that I have a message), free (for now) conference calls with good quality for around 10 people (not 100% secure but chances of anyone else listening in remote). Actively being developed.
Cons: No chat feature (but I don't use that anyway), standard voicemail message to chose from but no customization (would be nice), commerce section (purchase minutes, numbers etc.) leaves a bit to be desired (PayPal integration is a tad "flaky").

Version: Gizmo Project 1.0
Pros: This prgram doesn't give you anything more than the option to talk through the Net just like Skype does.
Cons: First when you register it says that lots of names are already used by others but this is absolutely ridiculous. (For example a friend of mine called himself Toshosoft. It told him that there is already a user with that name. Then he tried to change it to Toshosoftr, Toshosoft_r and so on, but it never worked and he had to choose a different nick.) The program hasn't got any options for chatting and you're not able to customize it at all. Compared to Skype this is rubbish!

"Great Program, But Very Hard to contact Support"
Pros: This Program offers many features that others charge for. Easy to follow interfaces, Nice add ons too . GIG EM GIZMO !!!!!
Cons: Very Hard and difficult to contact customer support/ service. That's not at all apealing to me.

Version: Gizmo Project 1.0
Pros: Simple once you get it to work. Better at muting noise from my Bluetooth headset than Skype.
Cons: I use a 3Com wireless router and the NAT traversal is unreliable (compared to Skype). I had to set 'Transport Setting' to 'Custom' and manually forward UDP ports '64064' and '5004' to get reliable connections.
