From Tenebril :

Note: This trial of GhostSurfer 2006 Platinum requires users to enter an order number. ""STDL06"" is the designated order number for this trial.

GhostSurf 2006 Platinum makes you invisible on the Internet and ensures a secure surfing experience. GhostSurf enables even novice PC users to erase all traces of their online activity, encrypt their Internet connection and remove aggressive spyware automatically. Additional features provide a secure location to store confidential files and eliminate online ads.

GhostSurf routes your surfing through proprietary anonymous hubs and lets you see every piece of data your computer emits over the Internet. It even erases your Web history, cache, clipboard, cookies and more using Dept. of Defense standards for data destruction. The SpyCatcher component employs a three-pronged method for spyware detection (profiles, behavioral analysis and contextual intelligence) to provide the most advanced spyware protection available.

    Version: GhostSurf 2006 Platinum

"Excellent! Your surfing will be quite safe with this program!"

by Björn Lundahl on April 10, 2006

Pros: I have SpyCatcher (the free version) and Ghostsurf 2005, and because of this, I think I can say something about this program which include both:

According To PC Magazine SpyCatcher catches nearly as much spyware as Spyware Doctor which is their editors choice. This software is unique, because it also analyzes the behavior of different files if they are spyware or not and when you use different programs which include, (because of this analyzes) suspect files, this software will ask you if you trust the program you are using (similar to the behavior with firewalls), if you answer is "yes", this software will let the program run and will not ask you again. This is excellent! This software will not either let spyware install on your pc (it blocks incoming spyware). Ghostsurf I have tested through Sygates online scans which were not able to tell which browser and operating system I used. Excellent! If it was in "invisible mode" Sygates online scan could not, either, tell my ip address. Excellent! Again! Bjorn Lundahl, Gothenburg, Sweden

Cons: When in invisible and secure mode, surfing can, sometimes, be quite slow!

    "DO NOT DOWNLOAD"

    by bdh734 on March 3, 2006

Pros: I loved not seeing all 3 programs in my system tray when I used Norton GoBack to get rid of it.

Cons: First: I have a clean, new install of windows xp pro. I downloading this product to test the real functions of a free software and as a student at ITT-Tech, I felt that this new product needed to be checked out. I first notice the memory that this product took up, it was a lot and it takes over your computer. Your surfing as you know it has ended, I clocked my speed at 123 kbs with a cable connection (7.23 mps). It disabled Norton Internet Security and disabled any form of uninstall for the product. I had to use Norton GoBack to get rid of it. The spyware program was the worse. Upon scanning, it found what it said was Virus, Worm's and a Trojan, and get this; it identified itself as BonziBuddy. Norton GoBack was a Virus that took screenshots of the system and sent them to a Bot computer. LiveUpdate and HP Update was a Downloader.trojan. All in all, there were 25 variants of a virus, trojan, or worm's. These were false, and upon a full scan with Norton and Webroot, all I found was 2 cookies. This is a sad program, Tenebril go back to the drawing board with this, no wonder it's free.

    "DECENT PROGRAM, NOT WORTH $50"

by racetruckdriver on March 3, 2006

Pros: The SpyCatcher Antispyware component of this program will stop anything that attemps to install on your system, creating a very safe web surfing experience.

Cons: However, the default installation of the program does start a number of Ghost Surf related processes with Windows, which will slow down your computer. Also SpyCatcher needs to be disabled before any software is installed and will flag quite a number of false positives. This program has stopped my Creative X-Fi Sound Card drivers from loading at startup, mistaking them for a dangerous process. Overall AdAware SE is probably the best spyware removal tool available, and it's free.

    "Good proxy, spycatcher is WEAK"

by blablupp on September 26, 2006

Pros: The proxy works well, in that standard issue "what's my IP?" websites are duped. Encryption is available in two flavors, 56 bit and 256 bit. It is encoded at Ghostsurf's hub and decoded on the client machine. It is possible that the decrypted content could be intercepted on its way from the cpu to the output. Such an assailant would then be 1337.

QUOTE FROM MANUAL, by TENEBRIL SOFTWARE:

The strong level of encryption (256-bits) is equivalent in strength to the encryption banking sites use.

This (256) level of encryption is available only to GhostSurf customers within the United States. For this reason, you will need to download GhostSurf's Strong Encryption Pack (SEP) from Tenebril's website (after verifying that you are in the United States and will use the SEP in conformance with US laws).

    END QUOTE

Sounds Impressive, huh? Well, see below...

As for other "pros", the whois tool included in the main GUI is convienent, and most users will find the software easy to set up and use.

The package includes a tracks-wiper, an encrypted data utility, something called "ad-armor" which seems to replicate functionality found in Firefox's browser extensions . There is also a spy-catcher, which as other users have mentioned is close to worthless. I disable the damn thing. I have a couple more caveats...4 stars for proxy alone, 3 stars for the tracks cleaner, 1.5 stars for everything else...

Cons: The software throws off the MC5's of downloaded updates.

Even when I have configured the desired site in Ghostsurf's "special sites" zone. The problem goes away when I end ghostsurf and use the command line to reset WIN XP to proxycfg -d. The included function that claims to "repair the internet connection" does not seem to help this problem. anyway, tho, it is nice to be relatively anon. when looking at those jpg-intensive sites that target ads based on IP...the proxy code is another tool in the kit.

Ghostsurf's proxy had been thought to be impenetrable, more or less, to all but the skillful, determined and Governmentally-affiliated.

Tenebril may need to take it back to the lab, if the words I recently skimmed at a dimly recalled URL are valid. At this website, a programmer held forth, to the effect that there exist, or will exist very soon, new tracert methods (the details of which I am only vaguely familar with, but do intend to study)which purport to represent a solution to Ghostsurf-style anonymous routing.

The point is rendered moot for the purposes of this review, in that the EULA's fine print mentions that TENEBRIL keeps records of who is doing what and where, and will furthermore supply said records in the face of a lawful request. Now, if you Ghostsurfed to TOR...you'd be surfing at 2400kbps. On the other hand...

    Version: GhostSurf 2006 Platinum

"Best IP masker on the net. Best for Privacy."

by leukoplast on September 6, 2006

Pros: NOTE: This review is for Ghost Surf 2005 (Can get at site)

So far, this is by far the best IP hiding software on the net. And I have tried nearly everything out there.

For one, its amazingly fast. I am on dial up, and one thing I have noticed about all the other IP maskers, is that they slow down my connection to almost nothing..and it takes even longer to load pages, or download stuff (if you can imagine that).

Second, it has a clean easy to use interface. And it works nearly flawlessly. All the options are easy to find, you don't have to be an expert to use this. In fact, its good for both.

Also, the 15-day trial is plenty of time to see if you like it or not. And its not limited in any way, except for the time. So you can get a good use out of it before making your decision.

One of the best options it has besides the IP masking was an encryptor. Which encrypts your web surfing with 128-bits..which means that NOBODY, and I mean nobody can see what your doing. And this includes your ISP, believe it or not. The only way somebody could see what your up to is if they used some kind of high-grade decrypter, and really not many people would go through this trouble..unless you were doing something really bad. But is perfect for personal privacy, on anything you do.

Another thing is that it doesn't slow your computer down much either. It uses virtually no processing power, and you can run it all the time if you like, and not really see much difference in your normal computer speed.

It also comes with a Internet cleaner. And this sure does one heck of a job cleaning..it finds all the files, and everything you could want to erase. And it wipes them using special military grade deleting, so they cant be recovered.

Another great thing is that this program tells you what Proxy its using, and how to set it up with other programs, and Browsers like FireFox.

Cons: One thing that has been a consistant in all IP masking software is Internet speed. Now Ghost Surf does the best job I have seen out of all of them..but its not perfect. It still slows down your connection, but its not very much And is definitely the least slow down compared to all the dozens of others I have tried.

One other bad thing, is it doesn't give you any option to choose what IP you want. It just automatically assigns it to you. And there is nothing in the program that tells you your real, or masked IP. So you have to manually check those.

Also, this program is meant to be used with Internet explorer, so in order to use it with any other browser you have to manually set it up. But its not that hard.

One thing I didn't like was when I tried setting up the proxy for use with different programs, sometimes it wouldn't work. Like it was only meant to run traffic through an browser. And this can be a major downfall to it. So It all depends on what you want to use it for.

Overall: Great, fast clean program. Masks IP and doesn't let go of it, so you have no worries of it stopping half way through. Its a sturdy program, and works perfectly for masking IP. And its encryptor function alone is something that I would consider getting the product for, just for that one thing!

So definitely try it out, you have a ton of days to see it it fits you, so why not?
