Think of your lost data as a hiker trapped in an avalanche, and GetDataBack Data Recovery NTFS as a trusty St. Bernard. It not only finds and restores accidentally deleted files, it also works with drives that have been formatted clean and those that are not recognized by Windows. The search tool can quickly locate a file by date, name, or size, and the utility also can create a drive image you can use for recovery instead of a real drive that's about to crash. However, it can't create rescue discs to recover data without the second, healthy system. To bypass this limitation, you will have to build yourself a bootable Windows PE (preinstalled environment) disk with special plug-ins. Like most such programs, the trial version only lets you preview found files, not recover them. However, you could easily pay more than $79 to have someone else recover your data. Why not get your own dog in the hunt?Publisher's description
From Runtime Software :GetDataBack is highly advanced data-recovery software that will help you to get your data back when your drive's partition table, boot record, Master File Table, or root directory is corrupted or lost, when a virus hits the drive, when files have been deleted, when the drive has been formatted, or when the drive has been struck by a power failure. GetDataBack can even recover your data when the drive is no longer recognized by the operating system or not only the root directory but all directory information is lost. Advanced algorithms will make sure all directories and subdirectories are put together as they were, and that long filenames are reconstructed correctly. GetDataBack is safe because it's read-only, which means the program will never attempt to write to the drive you're about to recover.

Version: GetDataBack for NTFS 3.3
"Great Product, Highly recommended."
Pros: I tried many freeware programs to recover data from a harddrive that was unreadable in Windows, to no avail. Some of them could read the files but they couldn't reproduce the directory structure. GetDataBack worked quickly and restored all the data I wanted with the directory structure intact.
The harddrive in question was unbootable, unreadable by many programs, had an MFT error, and many programs said it was corrupt.
None of that mattered to GetDataBack.

Version: GetDataBack for NTFS 3.3
Pros: I factory restored my computer and happen to delete all my files in my ext usb SimpleTech hard drive (forgot to unplug it; how careless I was!). So I had to create a new partition but all previous data would be lost. I was scared cuz I had 50gb of stuff in it from mp3s, video files, programs, and a whole lot of digital pictures. I was stupid to not make a backup copy of everything too. So I searched everywhere for a recovery data software. I came across websites that said they'll try to recover your data but the charge is $300-$400. I came to cnet, installed many others but they didn't seem helpful. Then I installed GetDataBack. At first, I was a little hopeless. But surprisingly when the search was complete, I saw all of my files right in front of my eyes!!! This software is worth the cost! TY to the creators. You guys are my life savors ^^ And another thing: always backup your files and don't store everything on a single hard drive!

Version: GetDataBack for NTFS 3.3
"Was able to recover NTFS partition, where Ontrack/ Stellar Phoenix/R-tools cant"
Pros: I tried Ontrack Recovery Pro, Stellar Phoenix and R-Tools R-Studio on my trashed former NTFS drive (an IDE drive attached to an external USB hard drive enclosure). Ontrack v5 was able to see the old files, but can't extract (i was about to extract when it returned an error screen). Ontrack v6 had trouble retrieving the folder structure (I used the Raw Recovery option). I forgot the result with Stellar Phoenix (2004 edition). GetDataBack was able to both get the folder structure and extract.

Version: GetDataBack for NTFS 3.3
"Free version doesn't warn you that it does nothing"
Pros: It found all of the files on a drive that lost power while it's partitions were being reconfigured.
Cons: I found out AFTER I sat through an 18+ hour drive scan that the free version can't actually recover any files and I'd have to spend $80 just to find out IF it can do what it promises.
Summary: "Limitations: Copy function disabled" is meaningless until you've run the program once. That needs to be rephrased to "Free version scans but does not recover any files" which is must clearer and more precise.
