This effective program aids in the fight against Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI) by letting you customize autoclicks of links and buttons, though we encountered a system slowdown while running it.
Simply hover your mouse on any link or button and a tiny window will appear in Gentle Mouse's functional interface. From there, you can choose which click you would like your mouse to perform, such as left, right or double-click. GentleMouse allows the user to customize a variety of features, such as the arrangement and appearance of the trigger and release windows, the reaction time, pixel size, and the commands of all the windows. It was easy to configure commands, but not all were available with the short 15-day trial version.
GentleMouse certainly eases repetitive actions, but our test PCs performed sluggishly while using it. Although anyone can use this simple but effective autoclick program, the trade-off in speed may not suit everyone.
Publisher's description
From Gentle Computing :GentleMouse is a patent-pending software that eliminates clicking. If you are suffering from Repetitive Strain Injury, arthritis or unable to click the mouse or you want to avoid developing clicking-related injuries, GentleMouse can help.Whenever you move and pause the mouse cursor, GentleMouse briefly displays a small, transparent window called a Trigger Window close to the cursor. If you want to click where you stopped, you simply move and stop the cursor over the Trigger Window and GentleMouse simulates the click for you. There are secondary Trigger Windows that become visible when you move through the first Trigger Window corresponding to right-click, double-click, and middle-click, as well as common keyboard shortcuts, such as copy & paste. GentleMouse works with any standard or ergonomic mouse, as well as alternative input devices such as trackballs & head-tracking devices. With GentleMouse, if you can move your cursor, you can click.
Version 2 adds Trigger Window Border, Alternative View Window, Visual Click Indicator, and Cursor Placeholder options.

Version: GentleMouse 2
"Great software / Inexistent support"
Pros: With a little of practice, you can easily abandon the constant clicking of the mouse. It sounds terrible at first, but later you feel more "free" when using the mouse. Even misses the software when using a computer that does not have Gentle Mouse.
Cons: The software still have issues (like creating several instances of itself on the alt-tab), and gentleComputing (makers of Gentle Mouse) simply does not answer ANY email you send them.
So, the only contact you made with them is when the 15 days trials ends and you need to pay. I have not tried that yet... I really would like to hear back from them before spending $40 on a software.
Also, $40 becomes somewhat expensive if you are not going to get any future support, fixes or new versions of the software.
The same complaint I had with Reflex Vision, a great OSX like feature, but also the company just left the website open to receive the paychecks... and abandoned the project without notice.
Shame on them.

Version: GentleMouse 2
"Easy to learn, but needs "pause" feature"
Pros: I was able to use it right after installation.
Cons: I need to be able to pause the program so that I can use other programs that are also sensitive to mouse movements such as Dasher and on-screen keyboard with auto-type enabled.

"Gentle Mouse is a wonderful product for anyone who wants to be free from clickin"
Pros: I love using GentleMouse because it gives me option to be freed from clicking. I had a shoulder tendonitis years ago so I am always careful with using my hands and shoulders. GentleMouse helps me from over-using my right hand. It may take a while for you to get used to using it, but it is worth it. I recommend for anyone who wants to be free from clicking the mouse. Anyone from arthritis, strain related injury, or wants to avoid developing clicking-related injuries, GentleMouse can help! Thank you for creating such a device to eliminate clicking!

"Lovely product, annoying bug when changing windows"
Pros: cuts down enormously on mouse clicks, hence finger pain - really great in that respect
Cons: When using alt-Tab to change windows, program flips back to previous. This is annoying. Does the same with the task bar via Ctrl-Esc. They say they will fix this next year. Not sure I will buy til they fix it.
Summary: The relief to my poor fingers cannot be overstated. i will put up with the bugs. But I'd rather have them fixed.
