Version: Genie Backup Manager Home 7
"Does not work - avoid like the plague"
Pros: Nice interface
Cons: This is one of the worst programs I have ever tried. It sometimes works and sometimes does not. Hardly a reccommendation for a backup program.
The postive reviews can only have been writen by Genie and as a previous review says you only have to look at them to see they were writen by the same person.
Genie must know the program does not work correctly and they do nothing about it except collect your money.

"Good Wizard But Let Me Down Twice Now"
Pros: I agree with the CNET reviewers to some extent. The interface is a bit complex but the wizard compensates for that completely. There is a substantial learning curve on this software. The previous version worked just fine but this version leaves much to be desired for. I rated it two stars because even though it failed to deliver for me the previous version did work once and the wizard has been improved since the previous version. With that said I admit that it's already been removed from my computer.
Cons: If you want a backup utility that you can depend on the I suggest you look elsewhere. I've needed to use backups twice now and both times Genie let me down. I have since uninstalled it and requested a refund and have not received a response on that as of yet.

"Great interface but backup of LAN folders is a disaster!"
Pros: Great interface + easy to use.
Cons: Great for backing up local files/folders. When backing up large folders across a LAN it has got to be the slowest prog I have ever used - seriously!

Version: Genie Backup Manager Home 7
Cons: Way to hard to use.. To many loops to jump thru, extremely limited trial period.

Version: Genie Backup Manager Home 7
Pros: Easy enough (sort of) to create backups
Cons: I have used GBM Pro 6 for many years and recently purchased GBM 7 feeling it was a very good product. This past weekend was the first time I had to use it to restore when my PC had a melt down. Guess what GBM PRO 6 or 7 would not recognize my backup files. I emailed customer service and they tell me to use WinZip to open the files and manually restore my backup. What a joke the backup is 18 GB. Apparently the problem is one of having GBM Pro span my backup into multiple backup files with the ΓΆΒ?Β?C000ΓΆΒ?Β? suffix and yes to do that you need to rename your backup files to .ZIP suffix to allow you to open them with WinZip. Now they tell me. I also tried to rename the files to a recognized GBM suffix (.gbp) no go. The reason anyone uses a backup program IS to avoid having to do it manually. I need a product which will actually perform the functions of backing up as well as restoring and this product is not the one do so.
I give GBM Pro 6 or 7 TWO THUMBS DOWN.
