If you want to make your own games, this is the program to try first. Game Maker installs quickly and launches automatically, starting up by generating a new project. A basic project includes sprites, sounds, background, paths, scripts, data files, time lines, objects, and room features, as well as game information and options, all of which you can configure freely. In particular, the application offers a good deal of control over sprites, which can be scaled, rotated, made partially transparent, and blended with a color. Each feature offers samples to show you how to create your masterpiece. All you need is imagination and the freeware's help file. You might not be able to create something, such as Doom or Heroes of Might and Magic, but mah-jongg and golf are doable. Though writing a game might seem intimidating, Game Maker brings it within reach.Publisher's description
From Mark Overmar :Game Maker allows you to make exciting computer games without the need to write a single line of code. Using easy-to-learn, drag-and-drop actions, you can make professional-looking games in no time. Games can have backgrounds, animated graphics, music, and sound effects, and once you get more experienced there's a built-in programming language that gives you full flexibility. What's best, Game Maker can be used completely free of charge, and you can use the games you produce any way you like. You even can sell them.
Version 6.1 adds a number of new features, in particular a better installer, a simple explosion and special effects generator, drawing surfaces, and an improved image editor.

Version: Game Maker 6.1
"Good Application to create your own games with"
Pros: Game Maker is a good application to create your own games with. Although the games you can create are quite limited (no such thing like Madden 09, more like Pacman, or Pong.) With patience and trial-and-error you can create some pretty nifty, but simple, games. Installation of GM is very easy, program seems to be very stable and easy to run.
Cons: GM takes some getting used to... using the Help to create your first game is not as easy as you would think.
Limited game possibilities, and understanding the interface takes some practice. Apparently, more advanced game making is available in a paid version, which costs around $ USD the last that I saw.
Forget about going to the programmers weebsite, you will automatically be redirected after about seconds (it can be overridden by stopping the webpage from redirecting with a click on stop!
This is a good program for younger people to learn how to create and publicsh their own games, I give it stars

Version: Game Maker 6.1
"The only application I've ever found myself addicted to."
Pros: Game Maker us straightforward, and easy to use. It gives you all the power and flexibility you need to make any type of game you want. I am a huge download junkie. Throughout the years I have installed well over a thousand applications on my computers, tried them, and used them. Game Maker continues to be one of my favorite finds of all time! If I had to list ten applications I thought were just brilliant, Game Maker would make that list for sure. If you'd like to make your own games without learning how to program, look no further. Download Game Maker! (This is NOT a paid review! I'm just a wild fan of this program.)

Version: Game Maker 6.1
"Best development suite for kids/toddlers games"
Pros: We have found GameMaker the best tool to create kids and toddlers games. You can knock off a simple educational game in few hours. Since version 3, a lot has changed and has been added. Even the donation amount we paid has paid off after the 2nd sale of our games.
Cons: Non for what is designed to do.

Version: Game Maker 6.1
Pros: It's awkward to use for a user like me, but with practice and experience the interface becomes familiar and gamemaking becomes easy. It's a brilliant platform where you soon start getting results for your efforts. There's also a comprehensive help file that comes with it, and it supplies the answers to most queries.
Cons: The interface is confusing at first, you need to practice before you can make real games.
