Sure, you can read a menu in a French restaurant. But how s your parlez-vous? French LiP can give your conversational skills a boost with drills on the French alphabet and common verbs and phrases. Its teaching style is strictly old-school. You listen to French LiP speak, then take a quiz on what you ve heard. And forget grade inflation. You won t advance to the next level until you get an A. For that matter, you can t even skip to the next exercise until you ace the one you re on. Though the exercises became monotonous, we found French LiP s conversational focus a big advantage. However, the ugly gray interface, with its chunky buttons and Comic Sans typeface, would make any stylish Parisian shudder. Also, be prepared for the American-sized 17.4MB download. Nevertheless, if you don t mind the drill-and-kill approach, French LiP is a good way to prepare for a vacation or a business trip.
