CNET Editors' review
Freemake Video Converter is an application mainly for converting video files to other formats, but offers other converting and downloading features as well.
This application is a worthwhile download. The layout is very simple, making it easy to understand how to use it. Freemake offers a row of media buttons at the top and bottom of the window, which are labeled clearly and are simple to use. It is very easy to navigate the various steps required to convert videos and audio as well as download videos and audio from the Internet. The waiting time varies from one conversion job to the next, depending on the size and type. Converting a t3-minute audio file to MP3 can be done in less than a minute, while converting a 15-minute video to WMV can take over an hour and a half.
The program's Help pages are very good. The tutorials come with a short video as well as images which are very easy to understand. There seem to be a lot of hidden gems in this converter as well, such as a few editing features for videos and the ability to add subtitles to your videos when you rip them from your DVDs. You can also convert photos and have plenty of conversion options.

"Great but needs a little tweak"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 2.3.3
Pros
Great choice of conversions
Cons
Needs to be able to save to the same file type as original. I get videos sent to me that are sometimes upside down. I would like to be able to flip the video and save it in the same format.
Summary
Great tool

"Great free software, best of all freeware I have tried"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 2.3.3
Pros
Easy to use
Only the settings you need, so you are not bombarded with technical aspects
Plenty of choices for outputCons
Slow, but it's free, so who cares. Run 2-pass conversions overnight and select "Shutdown after conversion" checkbox after it starts to convert.
Summary
I have been tearing my hair out trying to find decent freeware video conversion software that will do files, dvds etc. I tried a lot before I found Freemake and it is aces. For something that is free it is very good.

"Fantastic Software"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 2.3.3
Pros
Great interface - Sleek, Clean and Easy to Use.
Enough options to make it work well and convert to all formats with various settings, but still simple to use.
If DVD has separate episodes, they can be ripped individually or joined together.Cons
Not found any problems.
Summary
This software is fantastic, full version, fully functional and FREE.
After a few uses, a little update.
Note - Can rename titles by just right clicking on it and selected Rename.
Used it to convert my son's DVDs for the iPad2 and it worked brilliantly.
Tried some others, but this is easily the best by a mile.
Updated on Aug 11, 2011
First of all I still love this software, but there are a few little improvements that I would love to see to make it perfect.
Cons - Although you can cut sections out of a clip, you can not split it, which would be really useful when a DVD of separate episodes comes up as just only long track.
There is no save, so that you can come back to it later and finish off.
It would be nice to do a test convert on one title, rather than having to convert the whole thing.
But still a great piece of free software and highly recommended. -
"Outstanding do-it-all video software"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 2.3.3
Pros
Very easy to use, zero adverts, and this is one of those things you run across sometimes that's just a golden find. Rips and burns DVD's, converts any format to any other, up/download youtube videos, even edit your videos with ease.
Cons
No cons whatsoever.

"Freemake is Thee Best IMHO."
Version: Freemake Video Converter 2.3.3
Pros
Its sleek, easy on the eye, well laid out and easy to use. It does a first class job and does most everything there is to do converting files. Even burns to DVD and has gotten me out of trouble several times this year where others have failed !
Cons
Because Freemake have amended their 'UtilsService.exe' existance on the software and now made it as an option during Install and also fronted up to the customers then I have absolutely No Cons whatsoever for this product.
I mean absolutely nothing !Summary
I first started using Freemake last year after stumbling across it by accident and thought it was a pretty good number at doing the job at hand.
It has been my number one converter for sometime up until the 'late' UtilsService.exe introduction to Freemake of which peeved me somewhat, but I'm here to eat Humble Pie and tell you that this last weekend I have sat here and literally trolled through EVERY single Free video converter that are here on CNET ! And there are alot of malware, viruses, deceipt and software on cnet that cannot do the conversion job properly. I've never had that problem with Freemake.
I use two video converters now. One is Freemake and the other is Format Factory. And Freemake is the Bees Knees for me out of All Video Converters !
I say you cannot go wrong with Freemake.
It is thee Best IMHO !
