CNET Editors' review
Freemake Video Converter is an application mainly for converting video files to other formats, but offers other converting and downloading features as well.
This application is a worthwhile download. The layout is very simple, making it easy to understand how to use it. Freemake offers a row of media buttons at the top and bottom of the window, which are labeled clearly and are simple to use. It is very easy to navigate the various steps required to convert videos and audio as well as download videos and audio from the Internet. The waiting time varies from one conversion job to the next, depending on the size and type. Converting a t3-minute audio file to MP3 can be done in less than a minute, while converting a 15-minute video to WMV can take over an hour and a half.
The program's Help pages are very good. The tutorials come with a short video as well as images which are very easy to understand. There seem to be a lot of hidden gems in this converter as well, such as a few editing features for videos and the ability to add subtitles to your videos when you rip them from your DVDs. You can also convert photos and have plenty of conversion options.

"great Freebie"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 2.0
Pros
I used WinX Hd Converter from CNet ($30 now) but this one is better. At DVD title, for DVD conversion you can put 2 or more titles, they wil show up on TV screen just click the one you want to watch I put 2 full divx movies on 1 disc both dvd quality
Cons
None so far
Summary
you can put 2 full downloaded Divx movies on a dvd disc. Put 2 titles in DVD space, box shows up when you click DVD, and they will show up on TV screen and you can choose which one to watch. I downloaded the WinX HD converter offered earlier for free on CNET ($30 now) I liked it but the 2 title option on this on is very nice. I put 2 movies on a dvd with WinX but you had to fast forward to get to 2nd movie. thank you...

Cons

-
"Didn't work"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 2.0
Pros
very quick, nice interface.
Cons
was only quick because it converted the audio part of my files & didn't bother with the video. FAIL.
Summary
waste of time
Have since solved the missing audio/video from conversions with updated codecs & am now using this as my main converter due to the flv converter working without the audio lag other converters suffer with. I do still have screen refresh issues with freemake on both my PCs but am working around this.

"Probably better than my professional converter"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 2.0
Pros
Free and simple to use
Cons
Lack of variable bit rate (VBR) will give less than optimal results in terms of quality versus file size
Summary
This may suit many users who just need to convert files simply with reasonably good results. Video file conversion is a slow process irrespective of whatever application used so I don't think that it is fair to critisize the Freemake Convertor for this reason.
For anyone keen enough it may be worth looking at another free application named Virtualdub which does enable variable bite rate (VBR) which I have found to give good results but it does require a small learning curve. -
"Best DVD Creator Too"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 2.0
Pros
So simple. Added my clips, clicked "To DVD" and it burned the DVD with menu showing chapters for each clip
Cons
None so far
Summary
The best. May be able to remove all the others I have installed.
