Free Hide Folder does exactly what its name promises, but installation and its single password limit this freeware.
This application's interface is a study in spreadsheet-gray and white. All commands are single buttons along the top of the dialog box. You've seen this before, so it's easy to operate for every level user. Choose a folder, and it is immediately hidden. The program doesn't ask for a password, as it merely uses the same password for every folder.
While some users might like the simplicity of setting just one password, others may be turned off by the inability to assign different folders different passwords for the sake of security. It does simplify unhiding a folder: select it and press UnHide.
While the program works well, we didn't like having to install it. This type of application is often a simple executable that can be carried on a USB toolbox. Nevertheless, all level users will find this freeware easy to use and helpful.

Version: Free Hide Folder 2 build 20080408
Pros: This software is very basic, easy-to-use and gets the job done.
Cons: I hid a folder on a portable hard drive. Everything seemed to be fine. However, one day, my computer changed drive letter assignments for my USB ports. My portable hard drive had been "E". It was suddenly changed to "F". Once I did this, Free Hide Folder was not able to recognize my hidden folder. It was gone. Nothing I did was able to bring it back. I tried plugging my hard drive into other USB ports. I tried re-assigning the drive letter "E" to it in the original USB port using the Computer Management tool. I tried removing the hidden folder from protection in Free Hide Folder. I even tried deleting Free Hide Folders from my computer. No luck. My hidden folder and all its contents were GONE! I am so pissed. I originally used Revosoft Cache, which did a fine job hiding the folder when it was on my computer's hard drive but did not successfully hide a folder on a portable hard drive. That's why I switched to Free Hide Folders. DAMN!

"Don't Use - Unable to uninstall, messed up windows hide"
Pros: The program did what it said it would do. I was able to hide folders...but...
Cons: After installing, I was unable to view some of my hidden user files like local settings and application data. The folder options/View to change the option to view hidden folders stopped working. Ugh! Lastly, I was unable to uninstall this program. Why do I do trust these types of utilities?
