Version: Free Hi-Q Recorder 1.9
"A good replacement for the Windows Sound Recorder."
Pros: This should come standard with every computer. The Windows Sound Recorder is a ridiculously featureless program compared to the HI-Q Recorder. It's a great quick solution for recording WHAT YOU HEAR on your computer and is very intuitive. You pick the format (mp3, ogg, wav, etc), you pick the quality, you choose where it records to and you can start recording immediately. It's certainly not a "end-all" audio program but for a quick fix such as microphone recordings, streaming audio, and other minor tasks, I have yet to find a better free application. One great feature is the timer which you can setup future recordings. I use it daily...I leave my local sports radio station feed on at work when I leave at night and have the HI-Q recorder set to start taping at 6AM. Then, when I get into work hours later, I can listen back to the beginning of the show.
Cons: The free version has limitations. Plus, as stated above, this is not intended to be your only audio recorder, just for quick, basic tasks.
