This download utility is surprisingly attractive and full-featured for a freeware product, and its operation couldn't be more straightforward. To download a file, just click a link in your browser or drag it onto the program's tiny, semitransparent window.
In our comparison tests, Free Download Manager beat out Opera's download manager 85Kbps to 53Kbps. Its automation features also are very good. Like other managers, it can automatically dial a modem, start a download, or shut down the PC. Unlike many of them, it also can change the number of connections depending on download speed, or disconnect and shut down the computer if a file is unavailable.
If you want to boost your download speed for free, this utility is certainly worth a try.

Version: Free Download Manager 2 build 422
"The best free download manager"
Pros: Despite a long review I can't really scratch the suface of all the stuff in this app so here go's nothing.
This is the best free download manager and is equal to the try and buy one's.Speed increase varies depending on the site or server your downloading from ,but Ive seen anywhere from 2x to 10x faster download speeds.
Also when I say free I mean no spyware, adware,or malware.Plus it has many customizable option's,great english help file that's down to earth, and of coarse your basic features like scheduling, pause, resume, download manager, site manager, integrated site explorer...on and on trust me.
Also of note is the optimization wizard for your specific connection speed(for newbies) .Compatibility is not a problem and if your having trouble with firefox download the free flashgot plugin.Trust me.
Cons: I gave the 1.8 version a bad review before by accident and later appologized on the reply. It may take some getting used to but give it a try.

Version: Free Download Manager 2 build 422
Pros: The popular Download Accelerator has a rival here. This prog has no spyware or advertisements. The log files and simple but powerful interface are unique to this program. Further, it runs seamlessly with IE 7.
Cons: Interface is more technical and "Windows 98" looking than DAP.

"Great freeware! Better than some paid software!"
Pros: Great, simple and easy to use interface, and there actually IS a noticible difference in download speeds. Setting to auto-start downloads actually works on almost every broswser! (Ones I have tested on: America Online 9.0, AOL Explorer, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera) It's the best download manager out there! Spyware/Adware/Malware free and never will cost you a cent! It doesn't get much better than this!
Cons: ABSOLUTLY NOTHING! Except that I didn't come across this sooner!!

"It may be good and free but....."
Pros: Free.Does quite a good job.
Cons: A report by mcafee says this is a bad one, Downloads within all its programs....139 red downloads which include,Spyware-PCAcme, Generic Downloader.bl trojan, Adware-RBlast.dldr, Generic Downloader.q trojan, Spyware-WebHancer.dr,Spyware-WebHancer,Active Key Logger 3.1 (akl.exe) ,Advanced Invisible Keylogger 1.2 (aik_trial.exe),Comscore/Marketscore, WhenU, Adware-Url.gen,Adware-IEToolBar.dll, amongst others.I fell for it too, and instantly uninstalled.Take a look at Mcafee site advisor yourselves if you dont believe me.I think I would rather trust Mcafee than "Freedownloadmanager!
You have been warned.
Keep away from this ****ware.....
