"could not detect my dvd/cd drive"
Version: Free CD Ripper 3.1
Pros
free, easy to install, has an attractive user interface.
Cons
doesn't work at all. other than being useless, it's great. :-/
Summary
a bit of a black eye for CNET, in my opinion. if this is what they list as a great free CD ripper, how can i believe them about anything?

"OK for free software...but needs MUCH improvement"
Version: Free CD Ripper 3.1
Pros
Ripped the CD quickly.
Cons
The tagging feature doesn't work. It wouldn't find the meta data online for any CD that I tried. The software put every song from a single CD into a different newly created folder, which is a pain having to move all the songs into one folder manually.

"Little tune up required."
Version: Free CD Ripper 3.1
Pros
Editing track info and choose options for outputs is a plus when you have wrong or missing file info. This software also use a simple and clear user interface which allow a easy controllability for the navigation. It also worked fine on my Windows XP pro sp2 regardless of the editor's review saying that this software might crash the OS.
Cons
When it brings you the window containing your tracks informations, you have to enter them one by one and do a lot of copy / paste for the album name, author as well as genre. Even if you are able to enter symbols or any character you would like in the name of the track, it'll leave a garbage file as an output if you do so. I don't know if you ever tried to rename a file in Windows but it won't let you use symbols and it will tell you, so why is this software is letting you enter them if it's not working?

"Easy to use"
Version: Free CD Ripper 3.1
Pros
Nice looking interface and easy to use. Click the "i" at the bottom of the screen to have it query freeDB.org and fill in your CD track information. (that is, if freeDB.org gets your CD information right)
Cons
My only complaint, and I'm not sure we should blame the software, is that freeDB.org filled in the wrong CD information. I've only done one CD so I don't know how much of a problem this is, but it's more freeDB.org's fault, although this software doesn't have an option to enter any other location for CD info.

"An efficien, easy to use ripper"
Version: Free CD Ripper 3.1
Pros
If you need to have a copy of a cd to use in the car this is the ideal thing as you will have a copy that can be replaced if damaged so there's no need to be careful with it as would be the case with an original

"Only worth it if you have plenty of time to rip"
Version: Free CD Ripper 3.1
Cons
Tried several CDs. It couldn't identify the correct CD or the songs on any of them. It would pick one word out of the title and come up with a guess as to which album it was. I had to type in the titles myself everytime. Windows Media player had no problem identifying the songs, neither did the free cd ripper that I decided to go with.

"Don't waste your time downloading"
Version: Free CD Ripper 3.1
Cons
junk - you can't do anything with the free version except record the first 60 seconds of a track. If you want to use it you have to buy the upgrade.
-
"BAD!!!! May be better IF IT WOULD INSTALL!!!!"
Version: Free CD Ripper 3.1
Pros
I have tried to download and install this software many times but after installing I get the error message "Class Not Registered".
Cons
Everything I guess because if you cannot install software it is hard to say anything good about it!
