"Still very frugal, but it works fine"
Version: Fossi 1.0.4
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Installation: easy - just drag the program to your application folder.
System impact: minimal - obviously only one preference file (~/Library/Preferences/org.vafer.Fossi.plist).
Application integration: none - no services offered to other programs, no drag'n drop. Growl support.
Gateway provider support: good - Myfax, Sipgate, Interfax (fax.tc), Euteliavoip, Efax, Faxator, Dus). I'm using sipgate.
User interface: frugal - well, it's beta. But pretty self-explaining.
Bugs: Test button for Sipgate doesn't work; it rejects the password. I added a password section to the preferences file, but I'm not sure if this is required. The Growl support is a bit too good: I received 4 or 5 alerts.
Function: very good.
Would recommend: yes.
Short usage hints:
Add an account in the preferences window. You have to sign up to the service before, you cannot do it from Fossi. For Sipgate press the "Test" button, enter the correct password, and ignore the error message. If you cannot send faxes afterwards, add a password section to the preferences file (e.g. with BBEdit 9).
To prepare a fax, you have to save it as RTF or PDF.
To send a fax, chose Files->Faxes, and the File->Open. In the following dialog fill in the fax number - it seems to support only one. Press send, and that's about it. You get a number of Growl alerts when the file is transmitted to the gateway provider.
