CNET Editors' review
FlashGet looks and feels like a download accelerator worth paying for, which makes it all the more appealing since it's free.
After installation, a small dark icon with three lightly-colored triangles will appear in the upper right corner of your monitor. Until you place it elsewhere, the FlashGet icon will live there permanently, and is always "on top" of whatever program you're using at the time. Simply drag the link you want to download onto the FlashGet icon, drop it and hit the Okay button; the file will start downloading automatically. We were able to download a 215MB file in less than 90 seconds with FlashGet, shaving more than a minute off the regular download time.
FlashGet supports more than bit torrent files, segmented downloading, and FTP recognition. It also has a Site Explorer feature that allows you to download multiple files from the same site in a Windows Explorer-style interface. Utilizing the instantly recognizable table, the Site Explorer cuts a lot of time out of navigating graphics-heavy sites, and it recognizes most file types.

"Possibly the best download manager for Windows."
Version: FlashGet 1.9.6.1073
Pros
Although its a dead program, it works flawlessly under Windows 7. One must pay attention to the setup options in the installation wizard and untick any ones that do not apply to Windows 7 (more info below). Program integrates flawlessly with Firefox and will continue to do so thanks to addon development (read below).
Allows you to choose number of threads, as well as number of concurrent jobs, which equals to the total of number of connections the program makes to the internet. This formula is very basic and helps any average user to control the bandwidth usage.
Comes with an activity graph box, draggable and can be set to stay "Always On-Top". Handy for easy access.Cons
None Terrible. Program does exactly what you tell it to do. It takes very little memory and it does not stress my CPU like the many others, such as IDM and ADP.
Only GRIPE I have about it is the little graph guy, the speed limit needs to be pushed beyond 1000kb/s. Internet connections these days are way faster than that. But the development for this program ended in 2007. FlashGet 2.x replaced this, and I believe it is far INFERIOR version program to this. But this is not enough for me to take a star off.Summary
I see too many complainers here, and I'd like to address a few things. First of all, there are no issues between this build and Windows 7. Whoever complained about UI is pulling a fast one. The UI also has nothing to do with WinXP, it's always been FlashGet's own.
As far as the integration, those with half a brain, could probably see the XP install options during setup. An Intelligent person would untick all of these options that do not apply to Windows 7, such as "modify connections count", and "set default program". Which only create clutter in your registry.
Lastly, for the person complaining about FireFox, you need FlashGot, yes Got, not Get which is the FireFox Extension for FlashGet. Stop complaining about something that works. The program was developed to run this way. So they don't have to keep updating the program with every Firefox build. They just update their extension. SMART, AINT IT?! -

"GOT A VIRUS DOWNLOADING THIS"
Version: FlashGet 1.9.6.1073
Pros
There are absolutely none.
Cons
Getting a virus is always a big fat greek con.
Summary
I downloaded this and immediate got that searchqu.com/405 redirect. What's more, if I right mouse clicked any image, the text in the box was displayed in Chinese. It took forever for me to figure out how to delete it when I realized that I had to delete it as a plug in for Firefox. This is crap. Never again.

"SUCKED on windows 7."
Version: FlashGet 1.9.6.1073
Pros
Can'tn see any
Cons
Not only couldn't find a way to make it work, I couldn't get the thing to uninstall. I had to go into the files and find it. and it wasn't just in my programs, I had to go into hard drive and delete files to get rid of this monster.
Summary
On Windows 7 it would download the exe. file and stop.

"Fast, Reliable, software you can allays count on."
Version: FlashGet 1.9.6.1073
Pros
integrated torrent client, aMule support, ability to organize downloaded files by category, good browser integration, lightweight and unobtrusive.
Cons
still looks more like Windows XP, that might be UI consistency issue if you use 7.
Summary
used FlashGet for 5 years now, one of the best software I've ever seen.

"Fine product, but doesn't work with Firefox"
Version: FlashGet 1.9.6.1073
Pros
FlashGet is almost as good as Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) when it comes to managing my downloads. I can schedule downloads to begin when I want, and do everything that DAP could.
Cons
Unfortunately, FlashGet apparently doesn't like Firefox. When I try to download a file using Firefox, FlashGet seems to just ignore the fact, and Firefox maintains control over the download, which isn't what I want.
Summary
If for some reason you're still using Internet Explorer, I would definitely recommend either FlashGet or Download Accelerator Plus (DAP). But for those of you who are using Firefox, FlashGet is not for you.

"Didn't work for me"
Version: FlashGet 1.9.6.1073
Pros
It was free
Cons
Confusing to use. Inserts in clipboard operation, browser, startup, etc, and still didn't work. I kept putting the download link into it, and it would download a 115kb pointer, but right click "save target file" in my browser got the full 1GB file.
Summary
Needs simple mode, needs to work.

"Doesn't work"
Version: FlashGet 1.9.6.1073
Pros
Nothing that I can think of
Cons
It doesn't work in Windows 7. I tried using it in Firefox and Avant browsers, but it doesn't download You Tube videos at all.
Summary
I'm not sure if it's just not compatible with Windows 7 or not, but it certainly did not work for me. I can't seem to find a download manager that DOES work. Orbit Downloader used to work about a year or so ago, but that doesn't work in XP or Windows 7. What gives?
