"cool but crash prone"
Version: Fission 1.6.10
Pros
does what it promises, i.e. edits and join mp3-files without gen loss.
Cons
Crashes always when I try to join files. Joining not too easy as file may end up to beginning or end of the project.
Summary
Really wish RA would fix it usable.

"Fantastic"
Version: Fission 1.6.6
Summary

I've consistently been impressed with the polish and quality of Rogue Amoeba products. A long time Audio Hijack Pro user, I recently bought Fission. Wow. The UI is beautiful but in a useful way and the functionality overall is fantastic. -
"Just like a Mac So Easy to use"

Fission is Just like a Mac So Easy to use. I am certain there are more sound editors out there with more bells and whistles and more money. But for a grunt like me who knows next to nothing about sound editing this is so easy to use. Although it helps, one may even get away with not reading the Manual. Can anything be more Mac like than that ? Just super !!!! -
"Impressive and powerful app"
Version: Fission 1.6.2

One word: impressive! We had a sizable, 12 hour audio book that the likes of Final Cut Studio 2, QuictimePro, Audacity, et al just couldn't cope with. We discovered Fission and it breezed through the edits and exports with ease. The integrated ID3 tagging just added the icing when creating podcasts and audio books. Seriously powerful piece of kit and highly recommended, certainly for it's price point. -
"Does what it says beautifully and more."

Another review says "simple, elegant, effective" and Fission certainly is that. The interface is excellent. One other thing the other reviews don't mention: it will work on files others won't. I did over an hours recording of an event with spoken word and music into *.WAV. The mixer desk did "something" because the file was corrupted part way through. MAC OS X would not even copy the file and other tools refused to work on it. Fission did and edited it. Great relief. Thanks. -
"Potential for greatness, but...."

I'm not sure how you can call this an audio editor, when you can't do a simple cut and paste. This would be a wonderful program if I could cut, paste, move, or add audio, but basically, this just let's me shorten a song. I hope in future versions it becomes a "true" audio editor. -
"Pretty good with one caveat"
Version: Fission 1.0.0
Summary

Although the 'best of class' in stereo audio editors remains Amadeus II IMJ, Fission is easy to use and has some useful features, most notably the ability to edit MP3 files nondestructively (without recompressing the audio). Problem is, while you can cut, crop, and edit, there is no support for joining or combining files. So, say you recorded a 90 min file in Rogue Amoeba's own Audio Hijack Pro as an MP3 file, with AHP set to create a new file every 30 minutes (to keep file sizes down for easy editing). You cannot edit commercials etc out of the smaller files and then combine them into one. Sorry, but I consider this a significant limitation for an audio editor, one which is not shared by Amadeus, SoundStudio, or even the free Audacity. If you need lossless editing of MP3 or AAC file, you need Fission. If you don't, Amadeus does a lot more (including many useful signal processing tools) for a little less money. Lastly, if you already have Audio Hijack Pro, RA will give you a significant discount that makes Fission a much better value. Bottom line, Fission is a good app with a unique feature (lossless MP3/AAC editing) that needs a file joining capability update ASAP. -
