Publisher's description
From Totalidea Software :FireTune for Mozilla Firefox was developed for an optimization of your browsing experience with Firefox. It is based on a collection of popular and well working optimization settings used and tested by the experts. Usually you have to optimize Firefox manually, which can be time consuming and difficult for the novice user. FireTune helps you here--it includes all the performance optimizations.
Version 1.0.7 adds ability to control auto-complete of the URL box.
CNET Editor's Note: The Download Now link will prompt a local download of the Firefox extension. To install the extension directly, open the file using your Firefox browser.

Version: FireTune for Firefox 1.x 1.0.7
Pros: Easy to use if you insist on letting a piece of software do something and not tell you what it is doing. Probably may improve speed in certain cases.
Cons: Does not tell what it has done. Helps nothing in the most problematic parts of FF: table/form parsing/displaying. A complex test form run runs around 1.9 seconds Firetuned and 1.7 seconds without. IE runs it in 0.3 seconds.
Firetune also activates pipelining which is a controversial subject. It also assigns 65 MB to browser cache which is far too much for computers with less than 512 MB.
I would classify this piece of software as "placebo".
