A simple, no-frills tool for renaming computer files, this download works well and produces useful results. After a fast installation process, the software generates a window that offers a variety of options for renaming files. Examples include changing uppercase and lowercase letters, inserting numbers, replacing letters or numbers, changing the time stamp, or adding prefixes, suffixes, or file extensions. A separate function is aimed specifically at MP3 files, allowing users to create new filenames from ID3 tag information such as artist or track name, or to add track numbers. The interface may not be particularly beautiful, but we found the renaming process functioned smoothly, and would recommend the program to anyone who wants a little help creating consistent filenames.Publisher's description

Version: File and MP3 Tag Renamer 2.2
Pros: Stable, comprehensive and does what it says with a variety of excellent options. I do suspect that some users here don't understand the sometimes logical/mathematical task and thinking that has to happen before committing to any batch-renaming process. I have used it to manage entire media servers, software and web sites I designed and it never failed me (well, except for the times I wasn't careful and didn't back up the files before renaming them or changing their date, etc.)
Cons: usability could be stepped up a bit. This isn't the best interface. The process is not obvious at all and the design of the interface is very 1998-ish...

Version: File and MP3 Tag Renamer 2.2
"Long Time User - Just Upgraded to latest version"
Pros: Simple to use with a wide range of name change possibilities. It has been used in major revamp of my last 25 years of files including most file types.
The program is not used often now but cost of the Upgrade was negligible, the cost at the outset is low and the free Upgrade period is excellent.
Take a trial and check it out, fantastic value.
PS. The developers are NOT paying me for this message.
Cons: Like most software capable of doing a good job it has a learning curve. A little effort put in will be rewarded.

"Great! Helped me finally organize my music"
Pros: Easy to use

Version: File and MP3 Tag Renamer 2.2
"Program did not function (Win XP, latest updates)"
Pros: Didn't work - no pros
Cons: I clicked "Apply" to change the file names - nothing happened. I clicked "Preview" and no preview was provided for the new filename. In short, the program did nothing! ................
I have several thousand mp3 files which have proper ID3 tags, but disorderly filenames. I was hoping to rename my files using the descriptions encoded in the ID3 tags. As I said, the program was non-functional, despite a seemingly successful installation and despite a functioning interface. For background: I am running a licensed copy of Windows XP with all of the latest updates as of Dec 22, 2006. I am also running Symantec AntiVirus (latest updates)............ I hope this program works more successfully for others.
