File Scavenger is a file-undelete and data-recovery utility. Files accidentally deleted from Windows Explorer, the Recycle Bin, the DOS command line, or a network share can be recovered along with original folder names and the dates that files were created and modified. Reformatted volumes, broken spanned volumes, or broken hardware and software RAID volumes also can be recovered. Digital photos on almost all media can be recovered.
Version 3.0 has been improved and can find lost data under more situations, runs up to twice faster, can scan very large disks containing many million files, offers a more streamlined user interface, can save and reload a session so that a disk needs not be scanned again, supports both NTFS and FAT/FAT32 volumes and can scan disk image files. English, German and Japanese versions are available. It also contains some bug fixes.

"Great program, very satisfied"

Pros
Easy to understand interface. I was able to retrieve almost all of the 140gb I lost on a corrupt external drive. Demo'd 2 other programs that were more expensive, this worked the best. You are given an option of keeping the original file names and folder structures. It was also much faster to scan the drive for files (40 minutes to scan 160gb drive, another program ran 8 hours and was only 50% complete). Wish I could have retrieved all my data, but still really happy with what I could get.

"Life Saving Software"

I crashed XP Pro X200 Laptop corrupting whole XP installation and partition table - as usual backup never recent enough!!
Unbootable drive so couldn't load backup software anyway, unrepairable for 3 days - installed a parallel installation on same disc. I know it was risky but I could at least boot and access some of drive but couldn't access old "My Documents" even at Recovery Console or Dos level and was facing loss of ALL work and home paperwork and family photos.
File Scavenger files were still readable on drive, reinstalled with new License and BINGO ALL BACK IN 30 MINUTES
- BUY IT NOW SO ITS ON YOUR HARD DRIVE WHEN YOU MOST NEED IT. (And backup regularly)

"It didn't work for me"

I could not recover ANY files...my computer froze up while using, even BEFORE it was finished.
It took at least two hours, was stuck at 89% finished for at least one hour, before freezing up.
I tried to stop the scan, waited for at least 30 minutes before I figured it wasn't going to do anything else. (like STOP)
Tried to do it TWO times, could not recover anything

Very intuitive product that is easy to use... especially when I was completed freaked out since my external hard drive corrupted as I was transferring a ton of files. This product saved me from a tremendous loss of pictures, files, documents, music, videos, etc, etc, etc!!! Thank you so much for creating such a terrific product!

Will not give new registration key to buyers of their software who change computers or reformat disk. BEWARE. Do not buy this software if you ever plan to change computers.

I am a newlywed, and last night my secondary hard drive crashed...which is where I kept 125 GB of digital pictures, recording projects, and video editing projects that had yet to be backed up to DVD (I had just bought a DVD-R drive 6 hours before my hard drive crashed, but it crashed before I could back up my data). When all of our media folders became inaccessible ("The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"), my wife cried. ALL of our pictures from when we were dating and engaged for 4 years were gone, our wedding pictures were gone, and her grandfather's funeral pictures were gone. I tried downloading four or five data recovery software downloads (R-Studio, GetBackData, RecoverMyFiles, RecoverLostData), but they only found less than 100 of my 15,000+ digital photos.
File Scavenger, on the other hand, was an early Christmas present. The interface was easy to use, the process was intuitive, and most importantly, it found the files I needed! I am elated to say that File Scavenger recovered 125.57 gigabytes of my data! I only lost about 15 files from the hundreds of thousands of files that had become corrupt. Kudos to File Scavenger! This is the best $50 early Christmas money I ever spent!
PROS:
-Easy to use
-Very effective in recovery
-After it scans the bad hard drive, you can organize it in a tree view according to what the file structure used to be before corruption
-A lot cheaper than other products I tried but did not work nearly as well
Cons
-The program does not let you view a picture file it has found until you recover it. Might be difficult unless you know what folders you are trying to recover.
-It will take hours for your computer to scan and recover your lost files (a lot of nail biting before finding out if your stuff gets recovered), but it is thorough and effective so it is worth the wait
-You only get a single-install license. If you rebuild your machine at a later time, you have to buy another license.
-NOTHING ELSE! Buy it now! It saved my life!

*Recovered nearly every file (75GB) on a drive corrupted by Partition Magic
*Worked where File Recovery Pro (LC technologies" and another program did not.
Cons
Possibly due to the drive corruption caused by Partition Magic failing, the software created two virtual drives. I found if one file in one drive did not work, it would work in the other virtual drive. Sorting them out though was time consuming but better than lost files.

I lost all my holiday digital photos and videos on my compact flash card when the card became corrupted. I bought 'File Scavenger' and recovered 340 JPEGs, but it did not initially find the video .MOV files. I contacted Quetek on a Saturday and they replied the same day asking for a sample of the .MOV file type. Within 2 days they sent me a new program which recovered my lost digital videos. Great service - I'm a happy customer.
