While EXPStudio Audio Editor Free doesn't offer a tenth of the features of a full-fledged audio package, it's a snap to learn and it is indeed absolutely free.
We like how the program window conveniently arranges the controls. Under the hood, you'll find support for most popular audio formats, as well as a recorder, cut/paste tools, essential effects (fade-in/out, reverb, changing tempo, and pitch), and filters (low-pass and high-pass). The Marker tool lets you store any number of selected audio fragments. However, you can't mark a time point, only a fragment. The program can only save audio as uncompressed WAVs or MP2s.
Unfortunately, you can only work with one file at a time. On balance, then, EXPStudio Audio Editor Free seems best suited to home users with quick and dirty music-editing needs.

Version: Expstudio Audio Editor Free 4.31
"Suckered me all the way. WAV is "free", MP3 you pay for"
Pros: Looked very easy to use, I got started in just minutes.
Cons: Product is not free, unless you are looking for a WAV editor.
Summary: I extremely disliked the fact that they play this off as a free MP3 editor. You can open the MP3 and change it sure, you just can't save it unless you pay for the program.

Version: Expstudio Audio Editor Free 4.31
Pros: It meets my needs. While it is a basic program, recording and editing are simple enough. I am also able to save all of my files (albeit .wav) and burn them to a cd.
Cons: Unless you purchase the upgrade, you can't save files as .mp3, thus, limiting its usage, somewhat.
Summary: I like this program more than Audacity. It is more user-friendly for me. There are limitations but the learning curve is short.
