While EXPStudio Audio Editor Free doesn't offer a tenth of the features of a full-fledged audio package, it's a snap to learn and it is indeed absolutely free.
We like how the program window conveniently arranges the controls. Under the hood, you'll find support for most popular audio formats, as well as a recorder, cut/paste tools, essential effects (fade-in/out, reverb, changing tempo, and pitch), and filters (low-pass and high-pass). The Marker tool lets you store any number of selected audio fragments. However, you can't mark a time point, only a fragment. The program can only save audio as uncompressed WAVs or MP2s.
Unfortunately, you can only work with one file at a time. On balance, then, EXPStudio Audio Editor Free seems best suited to home users with quick and dirty music-editing needs.

Version: Expstudio Audio Editor Free 4.28
Pros: I had to "chop" some mp3 songs for a ppt. presentation for work and i was able to do it EASILY without the tutorial or any other type of help. The software is very intuitive and extremely useful to have for small scale music editing.

Version: Expstudio Audio Editor Free 4.28
"Nice and easy to use progam."
Pros: I liked that I could use it without reading a users manual. It was very user friendly, quick and easy to use. I had EXP on my last computer and came looking for it to add to my new one because it was the best one I found.
Cons: There is a charge to upgrade the free edition to add the options of converting the format from one format to another (mp3 to wav to whatever). Recorded audio was consistently low volume. I had to amplify my recordings by 500% to hear them correctly. Even so it is still the best one I've found.
