"Lets me monitor my yard"
Version: EvoCam 3.7.5
Pros
Price! Works very well, able to change window size (so you aren't monitoring bugs but people). I use my webcam as a security camera and this works GREAT!
Cons
Would like to be able to create custom size/shape of "motion sensor" item.
Wish had the capacity for multiple camera (2 or 3) recordings.Summary
I'd recommend this to anyone. Works great, no complaints.

"Impressive Support"
Version: EvoCam 3.6.8
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I'm based in the UK and was looking for a Mac app that could handle a wide variety of cameras. I have emailed Nick at least 10 times and invariably get an email the next day. He's handled each enquiry for how to access yet another camera by replying with exact information and a sample string to enter in to EvoCam. I call this service above and beyond the call of duty - especially for such a reasonably priced piece of software. Norman Leftly -

Evocam now crashes everyday we don't know why. Here is an earlier 12/22/09 unedited email to Evocam support and their response:
> We use Evocam and archive timelapse movies from triggered motion sensors.
> Problem: I am on a Mac 2 x 2.8 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Tower running OS 10.6.2 with Time Machine.
>
> 100% of the time, Time machine will stall, continues to TRY and backup, but will not.
> Only fix? Quit Evocam.
Unfortunately it is QuickTime which is preventing backups while video is being captured, so we're
not able to fix or work around this problem in EvoCam.

"Using with TrendNet"
Version: EvoCam 3.6.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been playing with EvoCam used with two TrendNet network cameras and the built-in camera on my iMac. It's well worth the price. I've successfully setup my airport extreme so that it maps the port of the iMac and see the EvoCam web server from outside my local network. (the EvoCam documentation doesn't explain how to do that.) I'm still experimenting with using the motion capture settings. Given the price I am amazed at how many features EvoCam has. The combination of the cheap TrendNet cameras and the inexpensive server software allows you to set up a very powerful video setup. It wold be good program for a bed and breakfast that wanted to setup a webcam of the view of the local mountaintop. -

"Evocam 3.6"
Version: EvoCam 3.6
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Just started using with my 20 inch Intel Core Duo iMac, great software, works perfectly. Support and info is very helpful on website. With in 2 days I had this all working through a router and dynamic ip cable modem setup with all the documentation I found on website and with software. Best of all it is Universal now in version 3.6. Would highly recommend this software, real bargain for the price of $25.

"Quirks"
Version: EvoCam 3.5.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
EvoCam is a solid program, and for that reason I continue to use it. However, it does have its share of quirks and here are a few I have noticed.
When I have EvoCam set to refresh every five seconds, to save images over SFTP and as a .mov file on the local network, EvoCam does OK for the first day or so. However, as time goes on, EvoCam sometimes degrades to the point where it is taking pictures as infrequently once every 40 seconds (extreme, usually closer to once every 12-20 seconds). This happens when the dedicated computer (15" Pb 1.25 GHz) is doing nothing but running EvoCam.
Another quirk is EvoCam's startup behavior. If I start EvoCam directly from the Finder, EvoCam opens up blank. That is to be expected. However, if I double-click on a saved EvoCam document EvoCam will open two copies of the document neither of them with the name of the originally saved document. Quitting EvoCam and double-clicking the document opens up an addition copy of the document (three). This number increases every time EvoCam is quit and the file is double-clicked until I manually close each duplicate document.
This leads to the third and perhaps most frustrating quirk. Trying to close a document in EvoCam calls forth a sheet which gives the user the option to "Hide", "Save", or "Discard" the file. This is infuriating because if I want to hide the document I will use the OS command to do so. If I want to save the document, I also will use the OS to do so. However, EvoCam seems not to know that the document it has cloned in RAM is a copy of an already saved document. What's up with that?
I also own a copy of the old but venerable Oculus which is much better behaved in terms of user-interaction. EvoCam certainly has its strengths, but it needs some work in terms of user interface. It also is a bit sluggish to gain and lose focus when switching between programs. -
"Great Product, Fantastic Support"
Version: EvoCam 3.5.1

I tried this program out and was quite pleased with the options and ease of use so I bought it. I had a second camera, a linksys wireless g, which wasn't supported so I emailed the develeoper and asked about it. Within two days I had an email back asking for access to my camera so they could look at it. Within a week they'd reverse engineered the firmware, found options that I don't think linksys knows about and had a new version of their software that supported it. Now thats what I call support. The webserver is a piece of cake and the other options are great. I highly recommend both the software and the company. It's these kinds of developers that make the mac community what it is. -

I purchased evocam and was quite happy with it's ease of use and options. I had two cameras and the second a linksys wireless G wasn't supported. I emailed the developer expecting to either hear nothing or no help. Instead Nick responded right away. He asked for access to my camera and said he'd have a look. Well, sure enough after a week he'd reversed engineered the firmware and found options I don't think linksys knows are there and voila had a new version of the software that worked with my linksys. The built in webserver works easy as can be and it's a great program to build a camera array around.
