This small software application bypasses Windows search with a lightning quick interface and real-time results for all of the files and folders in your local hard drive or any subsection of it. The software doesn't do much more than search, but its efficiency, effectiveness, stability, and low system resource usage make it a keeper utility.
The software is split into two main controls: the search box and the results page. When you first run Everything, it will create an index of all the files and folders on your machine. Unless you have millions of files, the index will be created before you know it. Searching is done in real time, as you type--i.e. the search term "rad" returns 379 objects, "radio" returns 160, and "radiohead" returns 71, all instantly.
The results screen can display seven different fields: Name, Path, Size, Last Write Time, Creation Time, Last Access Time, and Attributes. Sorting by any field takes a little longer than searching, but only slows down noticeably when you sort more than 1,000 results.
Everything also lets users connect to HTTP, FTP, or ETP (Everything Transfer Protocol) servers to allow remote searches, but its functionality is mostly singular--searching your local PC very quickly with minimal resources, and it accomplishes that well. If you've never struggled with Windows search before, you might pass Everything by; if your computer is a disorganized mess with files all over the place, Everything might be a wonderful gift.
Publisher's description
From voidtools :Everything is a search engine for Windows that replaces the normal Windows search with a much faster one. Unlike Windows search, Everything initially displays every file and folder on your computer. You can type in a search filter to limit what files and folders are displayed. Everything only uses file and folder names and generally takes a few seconds to build its database. 1,000,000 files will take about 1 minute.
What's new in this version:
Fixed:- Issue when searching for wildcards with match path enabled.
- Delete for files and folders in different folders.
- Portability issue with the default database and log locations.
- Issue with long file names.
- The folder and file selection after sorting and changing search parameters.
- Extension and type columns.
- Support for external file managers via the ini file.

Version: Everything 1.2.0.323b
"Fastest Search Program - bar none"
Pros: This program is fantastic........if you know any word or exact word sequence in the file title. I use X1 and Copernic that search the entire file, but if you can live with the title only, this is fast faster faster, simple, and free.
Cons: None with this version. Hope future releases will have the ability to search the file contents.

Version: Everything 1.2.0.323b
Pros: This is not some bloated or buggy program. It's made to do one thing and one thing only and it does its job in a clean and very efficient manner.
Cons: None. It's simple and clean.
Summary: This is the most simple yet most effective application I have ever used in my life.

Version: Everything 1.2.0.323b
Pros: Able to span multiple HD and index folders and filenames in a flash. Super fast results. Just be sure each folder or file you make has a meaningful hint in its name to help you identify the data you wish to retreive.
Cons: If you have a large number of files, re-indexing when you start up may take a while. Be patient. For more indepth results you will have to use some other indexing program, i.e., Search. But to narrow down the list this is excellent.

Version: Everything 1.2.0.323b
Pros: Within SECONDS, it found all 70,357 files on my computer (even in 'hidden' folders), showed the path and let me access the file directly.
Cons: Nothing really. Maybe some functionality that I haven't thought of yet, but that's not a "con". (omg, love this app)
Summary: It's so perfect (heh, although I've only used it for 15 minutes). Super fast and lightweight (memory- and cpu-wise). Microsoft, eat your heart out! (ew)
