CNET Editors' review
This small software application bypasses Windows search with a lightning quick interface and real-time results for all of the files and folders in your local hard drive or any subsection of it. The software doesn't do much more than search, but its efficiency, effectiveness, stability, and low system resource usage make it a keeper utility.
The software is split into two main controls: the search box and the results page. When you first run Everything, it will create an index of all the files and folders on your machine. Unless you have millions of files, the index will be created before you know it. Searching is done in real time, as you type--i.e. the search term "rad" returns 379 objects, "radio" returns 160, and "radiohead" returns 71, all instantly.
The results screen can display seven different fields: Name, Path, Size, Last Write Time, Creation Time, Last Access Time, and Attributes. Sorting by any field takes a little longer than searching, but only slows down noticeably when you sort more than 1,000 results.
Everything also lets users connect to HTTP, FTP, or ETP (Everything Transfer Protocol) servers to allow remote searches, but its functionality is mostly singular--searching your local PC very quickly with minimal resources, and it accomplishes that well. If you've never struggled with Windows search before, you might pass Everything by; if your computer is a disorganized mess with files all over the place, Everything might be a wonderful gift.
Publisher's Description
From voidtools:
Everything is a search engine for Windows that replaces the normal Windows search with a much faster one. Unlike Windows search, Everything initially displays every file and folder on your computer. You can type in a search filter to limit what files and folders are displayed. Everything only uses file and folder names and generally takes a few seconds to build its database. 1,000,000 files will take about 1 minute.

"Good stuff! Only searches filenames - finds them fast!"
Version: Everything 1.1.4.301
Pros
Finds all files whose names contain a certain expression, and does so quickly. The option that Google Desktop forgot! Best of all, you do NOT have to wait for a browser to fire up to see the results.
Cons
None so far - just what I was looking for.
Summary
Google desktop is good and fast - but showing results in a browser is not necessarily the greatest way to see results. Besides, Google desktop returns all search results, when all you REALLY want is find the file with a certain expression in the filename. This program imposes minimal overhead on the machine, works fast, and lets me find files quickly. It's standard equipment on each of several PC's I use now.

Version: Everything 1.1.4.301

Cons
None that I can think of.

"Does Exactly What It's Supposed To ... Quickly"
Version: Everything 1.1.4.301
Pros
Small footprint, rapid response. It doesn't have the flexibility of the full Windows searches in either XP or Vista, but what it does do, Everything does at blazing speed. As fast as you type characters, it's already limiting search targets.
Cons
I could complain that it doesn't have every bell and whistle. Of course, if it did, it wouldn't be so small and quick.
Summary
I use it at least 20:1 over Windows Search.
Added to Vista laptop; still working as advertised. Granted, its searches are somewhat limited, but within those limits, it kicks.
