Everyone can use a reminder now and then, and developers have stepped up appointment and scheduling software at all prices. We like "free," as in EfficientSoftware's Efficient Reminder Free. It's a powerful, capable, and businesslike tool that will remind you when it's time for meetings, whether they're every Tuesday or once a year, or give you a timely heads-up for looming events such as birthdays, anniversaries, sporting events, concerts, or anything you might forget or need a nudge to get going on. You can configure various types of reminders, including pop-ups and sounds, and prioritize events. Bulk importing of predefined schedules and holiday calendars saves time.
Like many of Efficient's free tools we've tested, this is a scaled-back version of more capable shareware with the same basic functionality but leaving out some features, such as the ability to add custom labels and attachments to events. What isn't missing is the capabilities users need most, not to mention the paid version's sophisticated, customizable interface choices, full Help options, backup and restore features, and security settings, including password protection. We particularly like the wizardlike pop-up dialogs that simplify setting individual events as well as the clean calendar view that keeps it all together.
This professional-level scheduling tool is freeware that's certified for Windows 7 and supports 19 languages. With so many capable features that are so easy to use, it's difficult to see how the same old excuses will cut it when Efficient Reminder is there to keep you on time and on date.

I've been searching for a replacement to an appointment/calendar program which won't load on Windows 7. It needed to be simple in structure, quick and easy to load new tasks, handle recurring tasks, and deliver reminders.
Cons
For my purposes, there are no cons.
Summary
Simplicity was the prime requirement and cost was not a factor. This one is it. The performance and price could hardly be better. I'm impressed with the thoroughness of it's design.

The FREE version is pretty useless. I wanted a free pop up reminder program like what MS calendar was able to provide. One that does not require my browser to be open to get reminders. One that does not require me to open anything to get reminders. A simple pop up that appears on my desktop. A daily to do list. Preferably free. This review mislead me, as no pop ups are available on the free version. Can anyone recommend a pop up reminder program that is compatible with Windows 8?
I am eating crow. For some reason, pop ups on my desktop started working the day after I posted this review. I am quite pleased with the program now that it is actually doing what I had hoped it would.

For some reason, pop ups on my desktop started working the day after I posted this review. I am quite pleased with the program now that it is actually doing what I had hoped it would.

Virus-like commercial program that enforces itself into your browser.
Summary
As soon as you want to install this software it automatically installs a Claro search bar and something like an add on which gets embedded in Mozilla (and probably in others too). You have to reset Mozilla if you want to not have Claro home page. Every time you reset just the home page it pops back as "Claro", which is by far the worst search engine you can imagine.
This is my experience with this software and I highly discourage you to download this free package. -

I was looking to replace the Microsoft Works calendar reminders since the Works calendar does not run ib Windows 7. I tried Don's Alarm Clock and Just'a Reminder and if I recall correctly one was way too complex and the other also didn't run in Windows 7. Efficient Reminder Free is just right (why do I feel like Goldilocks?) I had to set run at startup and minimize when close in options to make sure it is always running. The default is half hours, so I had to set it to accept 15 minutes. Now that it's tweaked, it's doing just what I wanted.

I liked this product as soon as I tried it. I've been using it for over a year now and like it even better. This is a really well thought out and designed piece of work. Congratulations to the development team that put out such a beautiful product. You can remind yourself days and weeks in advance and you can also set the snooze alarm if you need more time before executing the event. The event can be a meeting or somthing that you need to do by a certain time or anything else you need to be reminded of, like special occasions. I tried several before settling on this one. Each had its good points and bad points but this one hit the bull's eye for what i needed the most. You have an events window where all the due and overdue reminders pop up. You can set this window to always be on top so when it comes up you'll see the reminders no matter what else you're doing. You clear each event by either dismissing it or snoozing it or selecting it and changing the time when it's due. You have ultimate flexibility for how you want to handle that event. Once it's set it is removed from the window and the only thing left are the events you still have to update. This is a really simple and elegant design.
