Editors’ Review
Desktop Calendar places a calendar grid directly on the desktop and stores dated entries inside that overlay. It accepts quick event entries for specific days and displays a running view of the current month. The software triggers alerts at startup and when the date advances to a day with entries.
Desktop Calendar allows for simple color adjustments, so that the grid can appear either faint or prominent over wallpapers and icons. Data moves in and out through plain-text formats, with export to CSV, DAT, and TXT and import from CSV or DAT for backup or migration between installs.
On-screen planner
Desktop Calendar’s grid is rendered above the wallpaper layer, displaying month cells that accept event text. Entries attach to dates, remain visible on the desktop, and can be revised in place. An alert routine checks stored dates and surface notifications either at system start or on midnight rollover. This keeps event signaling bound to the calendar’s internal schedule rather than background mail or task services.
A color selector alters grid, text, or highlight tones to match the user’s background. Opacity settings control the level of transparency of the calendar relative to the desktop image. The layout keeps a conventional month view with day cells and minimal chrome. Boldness controls adjust line weight for higher legibility or a subdued look. These options focus on desktop coexistence rather than alternative views, widgets, or docked panels.
Export writes events to CSV, DAT, or TXT for archival or hand editing. Import reads CSV or DAT files, allowing for reconstruction from backups or transfer from another machine. The CSV pathway supports external editing in spreadsheet tools before reimport. However, recurring patterns are not modeled as rules, so repeated entries require replication rather than schedule generation or series editing. It also lacks sharing, sync, and mail or task integrations.
