Easy Grade Pro for Mac

Publisher's Description

From Orbis Software:

Easy Grade Pro allows you to create an electronic gradebook which, like a paper gradebook, can store student, assignment, score and attendance data on all of your classes and subjects for a year. But unlike a paper gradebook, an Easy Grade Pro gradebook...

  • provides an abundance of tools to save you time,
  • provides a wealth of information about your students, and
  • allows you to generate professional electronic and paper reports to effectively communicate your data with others.

    "It's great!"

    July 22, 2011  |   By DaveSreb

    Version: Easy Grade Pro 4.1

    Pros

    - Very easy to use, once you get it set up
    - Reports can be sent to parents via e-mail; many options on reports
    - Flexible grading: supports different assignment categories, weighting of categories, weighting of assignments, dropping assignments.

    Cons

    . In V4.0, you can't send e-mail using GMail's smtp server.
. Only two e-mail addresses per student (parents of some students in my school request 3 addresses)
. It is very flexible, but there are also lots of set-up options.

    Summary

My preference is to have grade book software installed on my system rather than accessible through the web. Based on that, EasyGrade Pro is far and away better than anything I've found.

The things I do most: adding assignments, entering grades, and emailing reports to parents are a breeze; well designed and easy to use.

Parents in my school appreciate frequent feedback, and EasyGrade Pro makes it easy to give it. In addition to grades and missing work notices, you can include comments on individual assignments for individual students.

You can also export your grades to a spreadsheet. You can choose exactly the data you need. I use this for creating a spreadsheet to use for mail-merge report cards. It reduces the chance for mistakes in grades.

Some people might find that there are too many set-up options. This can be good for people like me who want things just so, but for others, there may be too many options. The good thing is that once you have everything set up, you can copy options to new grade books when you start a new term or a new year.

I don't know what I'd do without it.

"The best digital gradebook I've ever seen!"

    February 13, 2010  |   By fdoughty1

    Version: Easy Grade Pro 4.0.3

    Pros

Highly customizable-many reports types possible, can email from application, can post grades to password protected webpage. Supports rubrics, standards, points grading, and weighted grades. Can edit grades and adjust scales of individual assignments.

    Cons

Many features may be confusing to beginners. No support for photos of student in student records.

    Summary

We have used this grade book program in our district for years and it is a serious workhorse. It will let you define categories, weightings, etc. It can import and export data and reports easily. I especially like the multitude of reports and the highly flexible nature of the program. If you think you should be able to do it Easy Grade Pro probably already does it. I have used this program every day for years. I highly recommend it.

"Great gradebook, could use small tweaks"

    Version: Easy Grade Pro 3.6.2c

    Summary

I have tried the other major gradebook programs, and as a data junkie I love the options EGP gives me. Fairly steep learning curve, but worth the investment of time. Months ago I emailed Orbis a couple of suggestions. Quite honestly I took their reply as rather defensive.
My main complaint is that when you set an assignment to display "Raw Scores" it doesn't necessarily do so. My elementary report card is on a 1-4 rubric. If I have an assignment with, say, 10 points, EGP will interpret my entering a grade of 4 as a direct grade entry of a 4 (or my highest grade) and gives it 10 points. The converse can happen to take points away from kids. I was able to work around this by putting a tilde symbol in front of each grade (~3 instead of 3) in the scale for each class. I would have appreciated their being more interested in this problem and perhaps exploring an option that allows direct entry of grades as well as one that is truly Raw Scores only.
I'm also annoyed by the lack of Preferences. I hate having to click a button EVERY time I quit EGP to tell it that I don't want to save a backup. I understand they are trying to protect people's data, but why not have a preference checkbox to either show or not show the backup option.
Other than that, I swear by the program.

Our school had been lumbering along with ClassMaster before I convinced it to invest in EGP. It has proven an invaluable transition. It is a smart, largely well-designed program with a very comfortable interface, dual platform support, many customizable features, and accessible, friendly phone support. I look forward to version 4, which I hear is in development.

"helps teachers work smarter not harder"

As teachers are required to track and record ever more data on students from Pre-K on up, this is some VERY useful software. It really helps instructors document and keep tabs on attendance, assignments, homework - besides the ever-increasing standardized tests being touted as so essential by often useless educational administrators/bureaucrats. Analyzing data compiled by hardworking teachers of over-tested students gives some of those overpaid goldbricks a rationale for drawing a salary.

    "Absolutely nothing better"

    Version: Easy Grade Pro 3.6.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I scoured the Internet a few years ago looking for that perfect gradebook on either a Windows or a Mac platform. My old DOS program was getting long in the tooth, and it was time for a change. Some were okay, others lousy. None were great. But when I discovered Easy Grade Pro, it was as though I had written the program myself; it was that intuitive. Incredibly powerful and stable. Great support from the author, reasonable pricing. This is one of the best programs I have ever used. EGP gradebooks can be used seamlessly on Windows machines, so everyone on staff at our school is thrilled with our EGP site license.
