  Version: Easy Duplicate Finder 1.5.1

  "Work's but be careful."

  Pros: Takes four steps to scan and take out duplicate files. Step 1 select a hard drive. Step 2 add the selected hard drive. Step 3 click start to scan. Step 4 take out the duplicate files.

  I selected C drive it scanned 20,582 files, and I was able to delete 5,553 duplicate files. When it scans for duplicate files, it includes original files. So leave the latest files unchecked, check the old ones and delete them. You can also right click on any duplicate file for more information.

  Cons: Scan time is too slow, it took 10 minutes and 37 seconds to scan my C drive.

  Version: Easy Duplicate Finder 1.5.1

  "It's nice, but..."

  Pros: Easy interface. Ability to auto select files (ie. keep all oldest files). Quickest I've seen. It took just over an hour to scan 213,000 files, which takes doublekiller over 6 hours on my computer.

  Cons: It really needs more flexibility to exclude files or folders. I wanted to exclude my wallpapers folder, but I had to select every other folder instead, and it does not remember settings between sessions. It only excludes system files (.exe, etc.) and (by checkbox) "other system files" (.dll, etc.). It picked many .tmp files (which were in use), and many .parts.stats files from my emule. I still had to manually unclick a couple hundred files.

  If you only need to scan a couple wide areas and don't have much to exclude, it would be great.

  Version: Easy Duplicate Finder 1.5.1

  "So far, so good..."

  Pros: Once it scans for dupes, you can right click on the file(s) and it will remove all of the dupes except for the first and last (the default setting), thereby allowing you to keep the original and the lastest update. What I've done,so far, is to delete about a third of the files to the recycle bin (also a default setting) and then restart the computer and go through several of my programs to ensure that everything is working right before deleting them permanently and then going on to the next several groups. As you delete the dupes, you can scroll down and see that many of the other groups are "crossed off", a very nice way of keeping track of what's been gotten rid of. I've also noticed something else: Any time you do a system restore, or re-install a game, all of the files remain. I started out using Easy Cleaner which I felt comfortable in using to eliminate over 2200 of the 5600 dupes (all of them game files) and once all is said and done, I'll re-install those (TWO) games. Any other file that I attempted to delete were vague and with the program's warning about making sure you don't delete the wrong file(s), I knew it was a disaster just waiting to happen and even if I KNEW what I was doing, probably would've taken weeks (if not months) to finish, so I downloaded Easy Duplicate Finder as a "backup" and now it's the only one that I feel completely okay with. It found over 2000 MORE dupes than Easy Cleaner (even after removing all of my game files) and so far, hasn't removed anything that's affected my machine. This one's a keeper.

  Cons: The program asks for contributions to support the new technologies and, even though I'm on a strict budget, I feel compelled to send him SOMETHING. I guess that's about the worst thing I can say about EDF, but for a program this good, the guy does deserve our support.
