CNET Editors' review
Good backup utilities that combine maximum user friendliness with excellent functionality and some helpful extras take the chore out of an essential duty. When all that comes for free, the excuse to blow off backups wears thin. Easeus Todo Backup is just such a free backup and restore utility. Like any good backup tool, it will back up your entire system's current state, data, settings and all, or just what you want it to, including partitions or full disks, and restore your computer in the event of a hard-disk crash or other calamity. Its Disk Cloning feature will help you migrate your operating system and data to a new hard disk when it's time to replace the old one. You can also use it to create bootable CD-ROMs using either Linux or the powerful Windows Pre-installation Environment (PE), which is a big improvement over MS-DOS.
Two things set Todo Backup apart from many other backup utilities (three things, if you count that it's free): its easy-to-use interface and its wizard-based operation. Colorful, large, clearly labeled buttons and icons make it easy for even new computer owners to use, a big plus because they need protection the most yet are usually inexperienced at securing it. The program walks users through its operations and explains each step with detailed instructions, augmented by a good Help file for further assistance.
Todo Backup is freeware and is certified for Windows 7. It downloads as a compressed file but extracts, installs, and opens without fuss.

"Works perfectly on Win7 Home Premium Laptop"
Version: Easeus Todo Backup Free 4.5
Pros
I have version 4.5 installed on a new Sony Vaio laptop. Did a successful complete system restore from an image created on an independent partition on the same HDD as the OS. The restore DID NOT wipe out the extra data partitions, it did what you would hope, over-writing just the C:\ drive (OS) partition. The backup process took less than 25 minutes for 170GB of data stored at "normal" compression and the restore took only a bit longer, not bad in my book. The process throughout was very smooth, easy to work with and unencumbered.
Cons
I created a secondary backup identical to the one on the HDD using CD's at the same compression level. It took close to ten hours to complete, not including time spent away on breaks from the backup process. It compressed onto nineteen CD's. Not nearly fast enough performance, in my opinion. Haven't tried a restore from the CD's (nor have I needed to) so I can't attest to the integrity of the CD backup.
Summary
Based upon my successful experience with restoring from an easy backup to a HDD partition, I have to say my experience thus far has been very positive. I will hold onto the CD backup I did just for safety's sake in case I may ever need it, but I don't plan to use the CD method again due to the time it took away from my being able to use the laptop (an entire day).

"Disappointed !!"
Version: Easeus Todo Backup Free 4.5
Pros
Simple & intuitive interface as in past versions.
Cons
Under the version 4.5, the recover process seems to run infinite. I tried to let it run for over 10 hours ( from a 40GB image file ) but still not yet ended. I gave up.
Summary
Now, I just sit but can do nothing since the latest image is the only one I made for the newly installed Intel SSD which many fine tune had been made before creating that image. Sigh !

"Worst Product Ever Tried"
Version: Easeus Todo Backup Free 4.5
Pros
We reviewed the impressive detailed list of features on the free and not-free versions, thinking that it would give us a great feel for the paid ones, with the hopes that the latter would meet our professional needs.
Cons
After a semi-OK effort with the free version I have been attempting to use EaseUS Workstation 4.5 for 3 months now and have concluded three things: It cannot perform reliably as advertised, the documentation is incomplete and sorely inadequate, and there is no viable support available, even with paid copies. I work for a rather large international manufacturing company and we had strongly hoped that this was a useful product, but it is not. If anything else, I'd suggest something with ENGLISH based support - the Chinese EaseUS folks are wonderfully kind and gracious, but are useless if you actually need help, which we still do. Specific questions go unanswered, while unasked ones are incorrectly answered - truly bizarre. Not enough room here to list the still open problems we've had with this highly defective product - stay away from it at all costs.
Summary
A complete frustrating waste of time and effort. I would recommend almost anything else first instead of this product.

"Excellent software; effective, easy to use."
Version: Easeus Todo Backup Free 4.5
Pros
The poor man's answer to backup; many different levels (total backup, incremental, scheduled backup.)
Cons
Maybe track the time to completion a little better.
Summary
You can utilize this software on as many levels as you choose, from simple to complex.

"Does what it says on the box."
Version: Easeus Todo Backup Free 4.5
Pros
Very easy to use.
Cons
Can't think of any.

"It can't restore system from DVD = USELESS"
Version: Easeus Todo Backup Free 4.5
Pros
It can make a bootable LINUX CD.
Cons
It can't restore your system partition from DVD after you boot from CD.
Summary
I used the EaseUS Parition Manager and it worked spectacularly well. The TODO Backup also looks ok, except when testing booting from CD and then restoring from a DVD set it won't do it. EaseUS, as here, will shy away from saying "yeah, it'll do that," although they do make some noise that it "kind of" works. My backup image was on multiple DVDs and it would not accept that. Nowadays you're not going to fit any C partition on a single DVD anymore...those days are loooong gone.
On the good side, this freebie software does allow you to create a Linux bootable CD that did work for me, and it can also somehow install a bootable sector in your computer that is available at boot time and that also worked for me.
But if this product can not boot from CD and then restore from DVD, it has to join the garbage heap along with so many other backup programs that can't do that. -
"Horrible Experience on Multiple System"
Version: Easeus Todo Backup Free 4.5
Pros
It appears that backup, (full, incremental) work well and run on schedule.
Cons
Recovery (workstation version) and Backup (Server Edition) DO NOT WORK. Prompt USELESS customer support.
Summary
On the Workstation version the problems start when you have a crash and try to restore. Simply put- IT DOESN'T work. Every back-up file is reported as corrupt even though I used the Validate image function. I purchased both the Workstation version ($40?) and the server version (<$200) and neither of them work.
When I tried to backup a file server with multiple drives it would time out while trying to initialize the backup. Customer support tells me to "unplug some drives." A week later they send me an unofficial patch which solved that problem but created others. I tested the server version before using it and it is garbage. Since I bought the Server version for my company this proved very embaressing. Two-hundred dollars is not the issue but if I had actually implemented a backup schedule and I wasn't able to recover files it would have been disasterous. I could have been fired.
The backup functionality gives you a false sense of security. I didn't recieve any errors and the software backup appeared to work flawlessly. The problems occur when you need to recover files and can't.

"Only product that worked."
Version: Easeus Todo Backup Free 4.5
Pros
Faster than XXClone, DriveImageXML.
Runs inside of windows.
Worked straight off the bat.
Was able to ignore sector errors properly.Cons
Wish I knew about it before the others
Summary
After trying many different free tools and wasting about 48+ hours of time, this was the only software that worked for me.
I have tried a few different pieces of software to clone my boot drive for a hardware upgrade, XXClone, DriveImageXML, and Clonezilla. DriveImageXML bailed on the first error it came across. XXClone, copied all the files, but was unable to copy system and boot partitions, thus I could not boot. Clonezilla was a pain to use and I could not clone the drive effectively using its default interface settings.
Wish I tried this software first, highly recommend it. -
"Crashed two computers I tried it on. Useless software!"
Version: Easeus Todo Backup Free 4.5
Pros
Promising feature set. Reasonable interface and seemed powerful.
Cons
It crashed (blue screened) two of my computers (Vista and Windows 7) without creating the required backup. How can you trust software like that!
Summary
Do NOT install it. Do NOT buy it. Give it a miss until they improve it so it works first time & every-time. This is backup software. Your computer depends on it to work like clockwork. And so do you. No level of failure in backup software is acceptable.

"Decent program"
Version: Easeus Todo Backup Free 4.5
Pros
Almost effortlessly copies partitions.
Cons
A little slower than expected.
Summary
I like it myself for just upgrading hard drives and backing up the system.
