 |  Version: EaseUS Disk Copy Home Edition 2.3.1

Pros

Don't know yet.

Cons

Clicked their help link to go to a page called Search.com. Afterwards my firefox is no longer behaving, keep trying to go to an invalid page. Probably malware. Luckily my IE is still functional.

Summary

Don't click on their help link!

"Copys files OK, but left my hard drive unbootable"

April 28, 2012

 |  Version: EaseUS Disk Copy Home Edition 2.3.1

Pros

May render your new drive AND the original as unbootable without a system or boot disk. More trouble than reinstalling everything onto the new drive.

Cons

After copying my C drive from the original hard drive to a new one, I removed the EaseUS disk, turned off the machine, disconnected the old drive, and connected the new one in its place in the Primary IDE position with jumper set as Master. I then turned on the machine and went into the BIOS to ensure that the new drive was showing correctly as the Primary IDE Master. Satisfied, I exited the BIOS and began the rebooting process. The disk wouldn't boot, and I got a "Disk boot failed..." error. After half a dozen reboots and rewriting the MBR, boot sector, and boot.ini, I was still stuck with a

Summary

I used it to copy (not move) my C and Recovery partitions to a new hard drive (Windows XP-SP3). It worked great--did a sector-by-sector copy of the disk--with neither read nor write errors. When I finally got one of the drives to boot (only by booting from the Windows XP system disk), both systems worked as it did before the copy process.

Everything on the new drive was exactly as it was on the old disk--with one exception; and that brings me to the "Cons" section.

The disk wouldn't boot. All I got was a "Disk boot failed..." error. After half a dozen reboots using the XP disk and rewriting the MBR, boot sector, and boot.ini, I was stuck with a brand new hard drive with a ruined boot sector!

It was the same story with the original disk. The OS and software worked perfectly, but the disk won't boot without help from the OS disk.

In closing, while it does a good job of copying the OS and program files, it can--and DID in my case--thoroughly ruin the boot sector of both hard drives!

I don't know if it moves the partition just enough so Windows XP can't detect it on reboot, if it writes the boot sector to the wrong location, or if it does something to the registry. Neither seems logical considering that its method of operation is to copy the drive sector by sector. I'm still trying to figure it out and fix the problem.

Meanwhile, I do NOT recommend this software to anyone who values his or her data, hardware, and time.

The formatting went crazy on this one! I had Pros and Cons clearly and succinctly summarized, then a longer account of my experience with the product in question. Somehow it got all mixed up into a jumbled mess!

"Great with Windows, not with EXT3"

April 09, 2012  |  By bballjmb

 |  Version: EaseUS Disk Copy Home Edition 2.3.1

Pros

Did several disk copies using Windows XP with no problem.

Cons

Did a disk copy of my QNAP NAS drive and it seems to work OK, but I have errors with rsync from a remote NAS device. It seems that the disk copy made the files and folders read-only on the EXT3 partition.

Summary

Great for Windows but not for Linux EXT3

"Kind of half a review but hope this helps ..."

March 28, 2012  |  By arcus5070

 |  Version: EaseUS Disk Copy Home Edition 2.3.1

Pros

(1) Looks like it will do what it says on the tin, clone disks or partitions. However, I'm in the middle of comparing with other alternatives, and I think I would prefer a disk-imaging application which allows me to save image files (preferably with some low compression algorithm) into another formatted partition. Therefore I haven't tried the actual copying at this point, but doing the install and looking at the app on the bootable CD is more insightful than reading the description.
(2) The disk copy / DVD boot environment was very good in terms of recognising devices such as my USB Flash Drive and Wireless optical mouse both connected indirectly through a USB hub. Also my external USB hard disk got found.

Cons

No real show-stoppers, as far as I can tell so far ..
(1) The install comprises entirely of creating a bootable DVD/CD - for me the install did this task successfully except that the installation app failed to exit once the DVD burn had finished. After checking there was no activity for a couple of mins I had to unceremoniously kill the process manually. However on reboot my DVD did indeed boot my machine from where you have a time limit to either proceed to the disk copy app or reboot.
(2) You may well need some good partition management software before you use this app in order to free up some contiguous unused disk space to receive your copying.
(3) The app looks easy to use but seems to be repeatedly requesting selection of source partition - kinda confusing at first glance - might have to check that again.

Summary

Used to make backup partition images with DOS software running from floppy but with only one internal disk + DOS not able to access my USB HDD + having to have spare partition on the same internal disk to copy the images to this was not ideal (as well as thrashing the disk somewhat). Therefore for me was nice to finally see an external bootable environment that could see all my external storage, and without having to plug in a wired serial port mouse.
Will make an update if I commit to this software during the next few days, and leave a provisional 3 star rating for now.

"Easy to use disk copier"

March 11, 2012  |  By jimtlr

 |  Version: EaseUS Disk Copy Home Edition 2.3.1

Pros

Creates separate bootable CD which can be used for cloning or copying system HD to new drive without removing it first.
Can do sector-by-sector clone for an exact duplicate.

Cons

None so far.

Summary

Watch out for the download process - it's easy to download stuff you don't need. A problem that, judging from some of the other comments, has occurred from time to time.

"The best HDD copy software on the market!"

February 29, 2012  |  By usaplastics

 |  Version: EaseUS Disk Copy Home Edition 2.3.1

Pros

This is the best HDD copy software on the market. All others would not work even you paid a high price. Best of all, this is a totally FREE. I tried all other softwares and all stopped at about 40%, i had over 10 years of data, very important files, photos, song, etc. I almost lost hope until I used this EASEUS HDD copy. It saves my life and lots of money too.

Cons

NONE. Others reported slow. This is the way and that's why it's slow. It needs to make sure all sectors are been copied, slow is not considering Cons. I can write a software that only takes no more than 10 minutes, but the computer would not not work after copied, so what you like a slow copying software that 1000% works, or would like a HDD copying software that takes 10 minutes and it 2000% will not work?????

Summary

Best software on the market. You do not need any others. Try it. You'll be very, very happy you did.

"Program Would Not Download"

December 15, 2011  |  By TonyBeGoode

 |  Version: EaseUS Disk Copy Home Edition 2.3.1

Pros

Don't know; could not use.

Cons

What downloaded was a shortcut to their website, and a tool to create a bootable disk copy of the program. When I tried to do that, I got an error message that I needed to download a third party burning program, such as Nero, to create an ISO first. Huh ??? ( Tried it twice with same results)

Summary

Not sure if there was a mistake on my end, but it shouldn't be hard to burn a copy of a <40Mb program to disk (Microsoft used to do that with W7 Service Pack 1), IF that's what was intended. In any event, several checks verified that no program data was downloaded in both attempts.

Updated on Dec 16, 2011

I did find the program in my Download file (must have missed it the 1st time), but when I opened it, it did the exact same thing.
