This program is one of the more simple e-mail backup utilities that we've seen, though the password protection feature failed to work during testing.

As its name suggests, EZ Outlook Backup Premium supports only Outlook, but you'll be delighted to find that it also works with Outlook Express. The program has a simple, wizard-like interface that helps users select which items to back up, including mail and address books. The archives--which can be stored locally, on a network drive, or on CD/DVD--are compressed and password-protected. Impressively, unlike most backup utilities, this software uses Volume Shadow Service, which can back up files even when e-mail clients are in use. Moreover, it works with Windows Task Scheduler, allowing you to automate backup procedures at regular intervals.

Its discreet Restore module worked very quickly during testing. On the downside, it didn't back up account settings, signatures, or stationery. Additionally, password protection failed to work during testing, as we were able to restore archives even without a password. It's also important to note that you are limited to seven backup jobs during the trial period.

Overall, EZ Outlook Backup Premium may be substantial enough for novices and casual users alike, but it falls short as a backup tool for more experienced users.
