CNET Editors' review
While EXPStudio Audio Editor Free doesn't offer a tenth of the features of a full-fledged audio package, it's a snap to learn and it is indeed absolutely free.
We like how the program window conveniently arranges the controls. Under the hood, you'll find support for most popular audio formats, as well as a recorder, cut/paste tools, essential effects (fade-in/out, reverb, changing tempo, and pitch), and filters (low-pass and high-pass). The Marker tool lets you store any number of selected audio fragments. However, you can't mark a time point, only a fragment. The program can only save audio as uncompressed WAVs or MP2s.
Unfortunately, you can only work with one file at a time. On balance, then, EXPStudio Audio Editor Free seems best suited to home users with quick and dirty music-editing needs.

"Fulfilled my (very basic) needs."
Version: EXPStudio Audio Editor Free 4.31
Pros
Seems to have at least the minimum features of an audio editor.
Cons
Unfortunately, a toolbar is automatically installed (with no opt-out choice available). After uninstalling the program. it's file disappears, but the unwanted toolbar remains installed.

"Don't loop it!"
Version: EXPStudio Audio Editor Free 4.31
Pros
Lots of features, including "snap to" a section of the clip
Cons
If you put it on a loop, it will crash!
Summary
I downloaded this program for a language class, so I could listen to the audio assignments with something better than iTunes or MediaPlayer. If I got stuck on a word or two I put in on loop, and with in a minute, the program would freeze, and I would have to "hard exit" out of it. Uninstalled now, but it said it couldn't remove all components. Hmmm

Cons

-
"Waste of time"
Version: EXPStudio Audio Editor Free 4.31
Pros
None- Audacity has a faster, better designed interface and is actually free.
Cons
Misleading and slow, clunky program. Won't let you save in most file formats unless you buy the program...can't save as MP3.
Summary
It'll let you edit, but won't let you save without paying, so it's not free! No way I'm giving my money to software designers who make misleading claims.

"Easiest editor I have tried."

Cons

Summary

"Great free program for editing music."
Version: EXPStudio Audio Editor Free 4.31
Pros
It's Free! It works great and is easy to use. ( I used to use Goldwave when it was free.) This is the same program.
Cons
Can't think of anything bad, it does what they say it does.
Summary
It is FREE,, not free to try!! NO VIRUSES AT DOWNLOAD.COM!! No mater what program you download anywhere, you have to watch for added toolbars, I don't install any of them.

"Great stereo recorder, editor. Records from all sources"
Version: EXPStudio Audio Editor Free 4.31
Pros
Records from any outside source - use micr or mic jack; and from your computer or Internet - use Stereo Mix to record off the comperter's soundboard. It's easy to select and save patches from any recorded sound. Save entire sound first then patches.
Cons
The only con I have is the bad rap some give it. Like all new things, it takes getting use to. Don't believe the virus-trojan hype. Cnet would catch that. You can use Microsoft's Recorder to convert files to MP3. So, that's no big deal either.
Summary
I recommend Expstudio Audio Editor. Not because it's Free but because it's a good product. Try it. You'll like it after you get use to it. I'm still learning how to use it and I like it better the more I learn. It has never locked up on me yet. I had TotalRecorder before and I like Audio Editor better. The visual wave of the recording let's you see where to mark the recording for cutting and saving. It has fade in and fade out which is always handy. It has lot's more features I haven't tried such as adding silence to sections, inseting audio, amplifying or quieting sections, and lots more I don't know what they even mean. But I'll lean eventually.. It won't cost you anything to try it and if you don't like it, you can just remove it.

"Quick easy to use and free"
Version: EXPStudio Audio Editor Free 4.31
Pros
Does exactly what I needed it for (spliting long tracks into shorter ones to fit on a CD). Works pretty quickly, no annoying pop-ups
Cons
I suppose it could be faster, other than that it works very well.
