While EXPStudio Audio Editor Free doesn't offer a tenth of the features of a full-fledged audio package, it's a snap to learn and it is indeed absolutely free.
We like how the program window conveniently arranges the controls. Under the hood, you'll find support for most popular audio formats, as well as a recorder, cut/paste tools, essential effects (fade-in/out, reverb, changing tempo, and pitch), and filters (low-pass and high-pass). The Marker tool lets you store any number of selected audio fragments. However, you can't mark a time point, only a fragment. The program can only save audio as uncompressed WAVs or MP2s.
Unfortunately, you can only work with one file at a time. On balance, then, EXPStudio Audio Editor Free seems best suited to home users with quick and dirty music-editing needs.

"Great little program, file exports limited"
Pros: EXPStudio Audio Editor Free 3.97 is a neat program that allows the user to edit audio files for free with no limitiations. It has a fairly simple interface which has everything the user needs clearly displayed. I thoroughly enjoyed using this program and I espicially enjoyed the fact that it is 100% free.
Cons: The only downside I have found in this program is that you can not export in too many formats. However, this is not a problem if you are planning to burn your files on to an audio CD.

"Great for voice recording, easy to edit and extend recordings"
Pros: Everything you need is on the user interface and I found it very easy to record a voice track, delete any mistake in the recording from the end of the track, and then continue on with the recording (I use it for transcribing text to mp3). Also easy to modify sound levels of track sections etc.
Cons: Help text is a bit clunky in it's translation to english. Not sure of the use of the pause button yet... but I've only had the software one day - this doesn't stop me stopping/restarting recording of a track which I can do by using the stop/record buttons if I place the track marker at the point I want to re-record from. Remember to set the input level control and source using Windows Sound controls! (double click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select Options - Properties - then the input devioce)

"Excellent program for editing audio, or copying LPs to CD"
Pros: I wanted an easy program to copy cassettes and LPs to CD. This is it. I also wanted a program that I could use to record a 1-hour radio show to my computer's HD and then have the option to edit, before copying to CD. Again, this is it. However, the program only creates audio files (in a variety of types)for editing or copying. To burn the CD you must either use the integrated burner in Windows or some other program. You can use virtually any audio source but it is helpful, though not essential to have a mixer. In theory, you could just plug your cassette player into the "line" input of your computer. There is an option within the program to select the sound source. When you record, a sound meter is dispalyed at the base of the screen so that an overload is easily spotted. The sound apppears on the screen (after completion of the recording) in the form of wave patterns rather like an oscilloscope screen. These patterns can be expanded horizontally which is extremely useful for small edits, like cutting out a bleep or a cough. Even after the recording you can adjust the gain and copy chunks of music, cut them or paste them much like a word processor. There are many other features to modify the sound although I have not yet needed to use them. There seems not to be a limit on how much music you can record at one go - I did about 50 minuites of continuous music with no problems - I suppose it simply depends on how much free space exists on your HD. If you want to copy an LP to CD that contains many songs or movements, then you'll need to record each song separately so that you can adjust the order of them before burning. For my purposes, this has proved an excellent program, easy to use and no fuss. I only once had a problem, which was my fault anyway and so stupid on my part that I shall not admit to what it was, but the helpful email support team responded within hours. Highly recommended.
Cons: It would be useful to open documents in separate windows but I have not found the option to do this. Maybe it is there somewhere.
