While EXPStudio Audio Editor Free doesn't offer a tenth of the features of a full-fledged audio package, it's a snap to learn and it is indeed absolutely free.
We like how the program window conveniently arranges the controls. Under the hood, you'll find support for most popular audio formats, as well as a recorder, cut/paste tools, essential effects (fade-in/out, reverb, changing tempo, and pitch), and filters (low-pass and high-pass). The Marker tool lets you store any number of selected audio fragments. However, you can't mark a time point, only a fragment. The program can only save audio as uncompressed WAVs or MP2s.
Unfortunately, you can only work with one file at a time. On balance, then, EXPStudio Audio Editor Free seems best suited to home users with quick and dirty music-editing needs.

Version: EXPStudio Audio Editor Free 3.94c
"Slow, No Previews but has good effects."
Pros: EXPStudio Audio Editor Free 3.94c has many good effects and many varibles but 2 big down sides.
Cons: EXPStudio Audio Editor Free 3.94c has two bad things that hurt in the same area. It doesn't have previews for any edits/effects which makes it hard because some effects have many varibles and you have to try one then click "Undo", add the effect again with different settings then repeat until satisfied. That brings me to my next bad point which makes what I described above even harder: Effects take a long time to load/be added when ever you add one

Version: EXPStudio Audio Editor Free 3.94c
"Powerful but pretty unstable."
Pros: It has lot of tools and effect for you to play with.
Cons: If you use the Expander effect, if you drag the slider to about 2000 ms and clicked OK, the program will abort immediately leaving two abort-messages behind so you loose all your edited stuff.
