ESET's Smart Security takes the structure built by their popular antivirus program NOD32 and adds on two wings: a personal firewall and a spam filter. Because much of Smart Security is the same as NOD32, this review will focus only on the firewall and spam filter.
The firewall's advanced settings are Smart Security's strength. Users can extensively customize the firewall's behavior, but don't have to. There are five default settings: automatic, automatic with user-defined exceptions, interactive, policy-based, and learning. You can set safe zones, configure remote desktop access, and manage intrusion detection, all from an uncluttered and easy-to-use menu. ESET chose usability over flashiness with its design, and users can jump between advanced options for any of Smart Security's tools from the same pane.
The antispam filter is similarly effective and configurable. The program can automatically mark outgoing addresses as safe, as well as detect global address books. Smart Security is surprisingly light, consuming around 50MB of RAM when running, and users should note that NOD32 has consistently scored near the top of several independent antivirus testing organization ratings for finding the most malware while encountering fewer false positives than most. Uninstallation is still tricky, unfortunately, leaving behind residual system files and Registry settings. Still, for getting all your security tools in one box, Smart Security is an effective and well-respected choice.

"The best Anti-Virus I have ever used!"
Pros: Great anti-virus, doesn't affect performance at all.

Pros: Everything is perfect .. best detection rate .. lightest .. fastest .. very easy to use .. blocks every bits of worms .. outstanding security of any computer.
Cons: I am a 24 - hrs pc user .. used almost all the the antivirus .. & this is my ultimate destination .. nothing can beat this one .. nothing is better than this .. nothinggg ..
Summary: My pc got affected by the latest horrible virus win32.conflicker .. i tried .. Avira , norton , McAfee , Kaspersky .. but none of those could treat the virus perfectly .. & could not remove it completely from the system .. the virus kept coming ... read more >>

Cons: Nothing bad.
Summary: This is one of the best internet security suites i have ever used & outpasses many reputed securities like Norton,Macafee & Kaspersky.

Pros: As a Long time user of Avira Personal plus, the switch was a difficult choice. When I reformatted my Vista ultimate system, I did & haven't been sorry once. Great detection & instant reaction to threats. Firewall even in auto mode stealths all ports.
Cons: The price is the only thing I found that I didn't like but I'm a stickler for a clean PC so I paid it. I've read complaints about it's firewall but it's the only one that puts all ports in stealth, even in the GRC tests.
Summary: Firewall is supposed to be it's week point but it's the only one I've ever seen that doesn't reply to any ping I threw at it. It's moved way up in the detection department. cheeking at AV Comparatives (dot org) confirmed this statement. Couple that ... read more >>

"Bought this im March of 2008."
Pros: Never been sorry I did. Liked it so much, I've already extended my license through 5-2010. I read somewhere that this firewall is the weak point in Smart Security but let me say this: Only firewall I've ever ran the GRC test on that all ports passed.
Cons: Expensive. missing toys found in some competitors suites but has all I need to keep both my Vista Ultimate & XP-MCE systems completely clean of viruses & trojans. One false positive in 10 months of use. It hates anything by Ask.com. Nero 7 installer.
Summary: Immediate response to attempted threats. Few false positives. Lightest I've ebver used. Great for vista users.
