This small utility safeguards sensitive documents inside a virtual drive, but encrypts only the dismounted drive. Though Dr. Hider's gray interface lacks panache, it's easy to find your way. The program quickly creates your virtual drive as you merely choose the size and letter of the drive and enable password protection. The virtual disk is utilized as a normal Windows hard disk. We easily opened and changed documents on the drive and common file-managing tasks such as copying, moving, and renaming files and folders were flawless. The drive is easily mounted and dismounted from the interface, though hot-key combinations would be convenient. When dismounted, the virtual drive is merely an encrypted file on your PC and inaccessible without the password. Dr. Hider employs the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) to encrypt drives, though we wish there were other alternatives. When the drive is mounted, security is no different than on normal Windows drives. Easy to install, configure, and use, Dr. Hider is a good virtual drive and encryption tool for beginners and power users alike.
