If you post programs and .exe files to Web sites or anywhere they may be accessed by hackers, this simple-to-use tool can protect them from malicious tinkering by encrypting and condensing the file.

DotFix NiceProtect launches a nicely designed, user-friendly interface with two panes: the left pane lists the tabs, or command areas for configuring a file to pack, and the right pane displays the dialog boxes associated with the selected tab. In these dialog boxes you choose the options for encrypting and packing a file. We liked DotFix NiceProtect's ease of use and the clarity provided in its Help files, which novices will appreciate.

This tool performed well in our tests. Selecting a file and choosing its packing options required less than a minute. DotFix NiceProtect encrypted and packed a test file in two seconds. We liked that it didn't just camouflage a file, but employed multiple means of protecting a file from hacking: polymorphism to modify the appearance of the program code; metamorphism, which mixes commands; use of a virtual machine to translate portions of the program code; and use of stolen bytes, which mixes portions of the program code with polymorphic instructions. Using this sort of combination helped assure us our packed file would be nearly impossible to crack open.

This tool's ease of use will make it attractive to anyone who sets up program files in public places for other users. The unlimited demo trial period allows for full exploration, and even the nag screen isn't obnoxious.
