With the advent of high-definition video, many people are finding that programs like Windows Media Player just aren't going to cut it for viewing HD content. HD video demands a player that can do it justice, and DivX Plus 8 for Windows is perfectly suited to handle this task.
DivX Plus 8 is a whole suite of utilities, including a desktop player, a converter, a Web player, and the necessary codec pack to handle the content. We put each of the applications through its paces and found them all to be intuitive and well designed. The player is specially designed to maximize the appearance and audio of high-definition video, and we could certainly see the difference in a head-to-head with the same clip played in Windows Media Player. The latest version also makes it easy to transfer content to DiVX certified DVD players or Blu-ray players (or the PS3). If you're looking to optimize videos for the platform on which they will be played, the DivX converter will come in handy. It's impressive how simple it is to use.
The DivX codec comes in handy if you want to view HD videos with other media players, such as Windows Media Player, while the Web player is exactly what it sounds like: an online plug-in that lets you stream HD videos. If any of this sounds confusing, that's because DivX 8 Plus isn't really made for users who aren't at least a bit familiar with the ins and outs of HD video. However, those who are will find this group of tools to be quite helpful. The program has no built-in Help file, but its online support page provides a comprehensive set of FAQs, tutorials, and how-to guides.
It's worth noting that the DivX 8 Plus player takes up a fair amount of processing power, though presumably you won't be using your system for much else while using it, and also that the program installs desktop icons without asking. The overall suite is free, but if there is an option to DivX Pro pack to unlock some features, such as the capability to transcode files for mobile device playback. No problems. The CNET add-ons were all blank, so I declined them. The DIVX add-ons were straight-forward and optional.

None. The installation hung up on the first try so I downloaded it again, but I think the glitch was on my end.

Installing the driver forces you to install DriverScanner. There was a screen that asked if I wanted to install DriverScanner, the box was checked by default. I unchecked the box, but the extra software got installed anyways.

doesnt play all divx files and when it does they are slow. distributes shorts cuts all over your computer without asking for type of install wanted along with a buffet of other spyware programs. will not uninstall had to use malware file assasin to get rid of it. blocks most other players available on the market. causes explorer to crash frequently. i would rather spend the next ten years endureing chinese water torture than use this ever again

At least it lets me play video's encoded with DivX in my favorite player.
It has an automatic update that works pretty well.
If you want to use the player, be sure to check out the Preferences dialog, it has some nice options to play with and let's you set the player to act to your personal liking. (Watch out for the 'Delete after I watched'-option...)Cons
The 'Plus' stuff is not necessary, for me. At all.
Tiresome installation-'features', like: Some Video file formats are set to the DivX player (does not respect the system's settings/standard software), doesn't recognize the language of the system it's being installed upon (default subtitle language doesn't match the system's language), oh look; there's something we need to uncheck during the installation process, opens a non-informative and useless web page after installation (in a browser that's NOT set as the system's standard browser...).Summary
Let me start this summary by saying I have my PC hooked up to my TV, so there's no need for me to burn anything or using anything else to watch DivX content.
The DivX Plus player is nothing special, when it's about just playing video's.
It's even a slow starter, compared to other players. And I don't like the fact it 'steals' video file formats (fortunately this can be undone via the Preferences menu within the player).
I don't want a non-informative and useless web page opening up after a successful install/update (in the google's chrome browser, really...?! Are you kidding me, that's not even my standard browser of choice, I rarely use it...). I've already installed your software, don't bug me for it.
The UI Design... Well, I don't care for it. It's just as ugly (or as beautiful, depending on your taste) as any other player that went for a dark theme. And who cares how a player looks anyway, when watching an HD video, you need to see it in full screen. Usability-wise; nothing revolutionary, but it gets the job done fairly nicely. No searching for this or that in weird or unexpected places. It's all there were it needs to be, without any clutter.
However, for me, DivX Plus brings nothing unique to the table. Especially compared with other free players out there (with way more features for playback).
All in all, it's just mediocre software. I'll say: Meh...
(And in the future; try not to annoy users with unnecessary install-features... TIA...) -

Neither Windows uninstaller nor CCleaner could uninstall this program. You can use Revo Uninstaller to remove DivX Plus Converter but you must use the Pro version and the "forced uninstall" feature.

The best at multiple conversion. You can convert different movies at the same time. you can join them, or do them seperately. You can make each one with a diferrent resolution.

The two major draw backs are the limited file types that it will convert. and the number of errors that it finds, For these I must use other converters.
Summary
If Divx converter converted more file types and and had less errors [which are less than previous versions] it would be the only one I used. For the things it does convert it does best job.
