The creators of the popular DivX video format also make this freeware bundle for playing and encoding DivX files. Video and audio playback is fairly smooth, and you can shift among full-screen, compact, and console modes using the right-click context menu. Skins are available on the publisher's site.
The installation offers a six-month trial of the Pro version of the encoder. The help file is external, on a live Web site, and not very helpful for answering basic questions such as what formats you can play and where to install skins. The codec's user guide is a separate download.
The program eats nearly 20MB even when there's no video playing. But, if you simply need to view DivX files or convert other files to the DivX format, this bundle is an adequate option.

Version: DivX Play Bundle with DivX Player 6.0
"This is a pretty big disappointment"
Pros: It's slightly better at compression than Xvid.
Cons: It's incompatable with a lot of encoder and re-encoding software out there including DivX's very own Dr DivX which they've replaced with the god awful DivX converter. They aren't going to update Dr DivX to work with DixX 6 either so i'm gutted :o( It's also incompatible with my beloved No1 DVD Ripper which just won't have any of it!!! At least No1 DVD Ripper will probably work with DivX 6 with it's next release. Also there's an annoying little icon that won't go away in the system tray whenever a DivX or Xvid file is running and there's no option to make it go away! My DVD/avi player just about managed to play a movie encoded in DivX 6 but still struggled to start. Unfortunately the cons really do outweight the pros which is why i've switched back to good ol' DivX 5.2.1 which is far more smoother and can still play DivX 6 files.

Pros: I can't recommend this product highly enough! It plays all movie formats, MPG, AVI etc ... They have V6.1 preview @ Betanews.com
Cons: Only plays movies, perhaps they should add support for MP3s & other formats, make it a universal media player.

Pros: nice gui
runs divx great obviously
and has some cool features like online tv and such

Version: DivX Play Bundle with DivX Player 6.0
Pros: i have divx 5.2.1 on my other computer and never had any problems with it. i was hesitent about installing divx 6 from the reviews but i needed it to play a movie so i did anyways and it seems just as good as divx 5 never found any viruses or spyware from it. i use mcafee, norton, spy-sweeper, spyware doctor- adaware and more.

Pros: It's great for playing DVD rips, and Divx format videos. It also plays all the other types of video codecs like AVI and MPEG. It also plays DVD video.
