"Just download it for the codec"

Pros
Its free.
The codec is probably the most used video codec today...outside of Windows Media Video codecs.
Easy installer.
It is a LEGAL version of the MPEG-4 codec (unlike DivX 3 alpha).
Cons
Comes with a junky DivX player which just makes the download size more than it needs to be. DivX movies play fine in Windows Media Player with the codec it installs. No need for that junky player.
Codec is setup to show the DivX watermark when initiating DivX video playback by default. Take a little work to find the option to turn it off.

It's great for playing DVD rips, and Divx format videos. It also plays all the other types of video codecs like AVI and MPEG. It also plays DVD video.

"JUST LOAD THE CODEC ONLY ... OK???"

No spyware, adware or the like. As mentioned above, (for a clean install), you should ONLY LOAD THE CODEC during install. Don't load the "player" and don't load the "Google toolbar". I think that is where everyone is having problems (for example: why buy a new car if all you need is a new set of tires) ... SO ONLY INSTALL WHAT U NEED. I have a XP laptop and the CODEC runs fine (and without any items lingering in the taskbar).

You got mp3, wma, real audio/video,mpeg, mpg and etc formats of software or audio and video formats;but if come to DIVX format, you need its Codec and Divx Player to play it for better perfomance and nothing can compare with this easy operate/handle and FREE software.
RECOMMEND for those who use DIVX format.

It's good at it's sole purpose which is playing divx movies.

To much fluff.All I need is the codec not the media player,toolbar,spyware and everything else.It's funny how they won't let you just install what you need anymore.It's also funny how everyone says in does'nt contain spyware, when even divx only says "it does'nt contain adware".Read the description and the license agreement well!
